Why do you feel you need back up hearing aids - if you do?

I currently wear Phonak Pico Forte and have done for 30 years since I was 6, so unfortunately I’m a audiologists worse nightmare that can not adjust to a digital hearing aid, because my expectations and standards is stubborn and wanting exact same hearing and experience as the hearing aids I wear now, plus my brain is trained to hear this way after all those years, so I have Phonak Naida battery digitals that I’ve not even worn yet, still waiting on my bloody moulds to be adjusting to fit the hooks. So that’s where I’m at right now.

Do they not whistle when you are resting on the pillow or anything, I never wear mine during sleep time

I think my is worse then yours and yet I hear music when I wear headphones without hearing aids, granted it needs turning up full volume but I hear it, so I’m surprised you can’t

I sleep on my back because of spine problems. I only wear them at night now that my dog is sick, so that I can hear him if he wants to go out in the middle of the night

Ah right I see, least you are able to adapt and care for your dog when needed, people take for granted when we go to sleep and how people with hearing can not hear a thing if anything bad was to happen, I don’t have a child (yet) and so always think about if they cried and I can’t hear, I only can hear mildly out of my left.

Yes, things may happen during the night and may be dangerous not to hear. For example, an alarm was sounding in the basement (smoke alarm battery, not real danger) but only my husband heard it, when i was not wearing at night. Somebody must invent a pillow for HA wearers that slep on their sides!

HMMM, you may have a point. It’s possible I could hear with headphones and volume cranked up, but at a lower volume I get superb music streaming via my Android phone - with no distortion and no one nearby getting blasted with my music. Maybe that’s the benefit of the speakers seated in my ear canal?

Luckily I do have smoke alarm fitted in my room which I can hear when it’s been tested. But yes there’s definitely a market to invent something of that kind surely haha

That’s amazing it works for you to stream like that, I had tried digitals and the music in the car sounded so tinny, I didn’t like it, and it’s important to hear music because it’s good therapy and calming

This is a topic near and dear to my heart.I just this past week bought a set of Phonak Audeo’ Marvel M90R used . I currently have a set of the Phonak M30R model HAs and grabbed the M90s because it has several features that can help me hear conversations better. I hate asking people to repeat themselves while wearing my HAs!
I know the Audeo Marvel line is legacy HAs but for me I can’t afford the latest and greatest. I’m going to ask my audiologist to program the new ones for me. That said (and on to the subject) I’ll be using the M90R’s for every day and keeping the M30’s for a backup.
I’m another here who can’t function without the HAs so having a ‘backup’ pair is an essential need I shouldn’t be without!

Perhaps 25 years ago, here in the UK, these inventions were already created… I had a pager, for the door bell, smoke alarm, telephone, it vibrated, flashed, or emitted a loud noise, or all 3 alarms simultaneously… It lit up a feature telling you what alarm went off, it could also be synced with a baby monitor, the pager worked via … It was belt worn! When you went to bed, you inserted the pager into your bedside alarm, which had a vibrating pillow shaker, or it flashed, or emitted a loud alarm noise, that would waken the dead! You could also get the full works of all 3 alarms! These environmental aids, have been out for many years, they’ll be pretty advanced nowadays, I would imagine? Cheers Kev ![]()

I can’t find anything like that here. I have things like Ring cam, Alexa, etc, but at best they produce a sound or description to my hearing aids via my iPhone. When I sleep, I turn the iPhone off. And I can only connect it to ine set of .

Hello @nessun. You have to search for Deaf service suppliers, or Deaf environmental aids, or combinations of these, below is a link to a friend of mines Website “Steve Smith” is the owner, now Steve is an awful fine lad, a Level 3 signer in , but nothing is ever too much trouble, and so laid back he is borderline horizontal… His site, will give you some idea of the Deaf environmental aids, that are currently available… Cheers Kev ![]()
