My wife has serious hearing loss. Seeing how hard it is for her to follow talks, meetings and even trivia nights led me to build an app called RoomCast (now in early beta). It streams the speaker's voice over the room's Wi-Fi straight to her phone's browser, so she can listen through her hearing aids. There's no app or account needed; you just open a web page. Lots of people can listen at once on the same link, on their own phones. It works like a , but without any special equipment for the hall or the listener.
The app is really still taking shape, and I'd value your thoughts if you can spare the time:
- Would something like what's described here help in places you struggle to hear?
- Where do you especially struggle (church, lectures, clubs, meetings)?
- What would put you off using this, or do you already use something like this that you use and are happy with?
To be clear, I'm not selling anything. RoomCast is only in early beta, runs on a Mac, and is open source and free. The site is roomcast.channel if you'd like a look. My wife thinks it would be wise to get more advice than just her suggestions - on which this app is built. I'd love to hear from you - especially if you hate the idea! Please let me know.
