I've used H/As since 2000 when digital aids arrived. My hearing loss has gotten much worse over time, and my latest audiologist said I really need to look at Cochlear implants. I'll do that with a specialist in Boston. But I still need new H/As before I retire and lose my excellent insurance coverage. My best past aids were Resounds and my current Phonak Audeo (Lumity?) are ok. Widex wasn't good for me. My remaining hearing is pretty much all below 1000hz and due to a lifetime of hearing loss, no matter how much they boost higher frequencies (2000+) it's just white noise to me that prevents speech understanding.
Among the new crop of H/As, especially Resound and Phonak, does anything stand out for producing natural sounds? For me, mostly emphasizing low-mid. A functional frequency shifting program helps me. The "Automatic" setting on my Phonaks unusuble. It amplifies what I don't want and shuts down things like car audio or TV as if it is noise. Has anybody created something that actually works in those situations?
I'd welcome any input, suggestions or ideas on what I should be looking for. I can't tell the difference between Resound Sensia and Vivia for example. I'm not even sure whether I need Super Power or not. Audiologist said current aids are probably not powerful enough. She won't be fitting me unfortunately.
