I can confirm that the Groundwire iPhone app works very well with a variety of VoIP services.

I’ve been using it for years with voip.ms, Sipgate and my own Asterisk server.

And since it’s a smartphone app, it works with any hearing aids that are connected to the phone.

Our dl rate from isp is 1.25gbps. My son went with UniFi gear to get available rates up. I have 10gbps to my desktop, which can use that for accessing the san. The ports going to the isp are linked at 2.5gbps, although the dl rate never reaches that, the connection isn’t slowing anything down either. Up is a measly 40mb so that’s what we’re most hoping for an improvement in. 2gp is available on the road ours connects to about a half mile away, but they are prevented from bringing it in due to some exclusivity deal the isp we have made with the town.

All over Asia are using 4G - 5G and soon 6G. Most of the phone calls are now VOIP via the mobile phones. The telco companies are promoting “data package - 1Gb - 100Gb” instead of the number of minutes/hours phone calls. Things are changing fast…

As we are driving through Vermont, having left the Adirondacks in NY where we stayed this weekend, we have gone through miles of places with no signal repeatedly. Our cities may have 5g+ but a lot of us feel grateful to get any signal at home. I rely on my home’s internet connection and wifi for phone calling. I get a hair’s breadth of signal on a couple corners of the house. Strictly sms only. The power goes out often and when it does, regardless of our generator, a device on the pole along the road for our internet runs out of battery after a few hours and we go back 35 years!

Yeah WH, I am most fortunate to get 5g, at home and a reasonable cell phone signal, most areas in the Scottish Highlands get good coverage, although there are some “No spots” still remaining, but actually not that many… It has been part of the UK government policy, to connect up full fibre, and 5g to sparsely populated areas, places deemed “not financially viable” are covered with a voucher system, my ISP will get a £1500 voucher, for exery full fibre connection that they install “Pan Highland”… There packages are reasonable, I believe, per month as follows… £30 for 100mbps (£19 if you are on low income or unemployed ) £35 for 300mbps, £45 for 900mbps, and £55 for 2000mbps, these are all symmetrical services, the upload is the same as the download, to me it was a no brainer, I was paying £45 to my ISP for 74mbps down, and 18mbps up… Cheers Kev :wink:

I wish. $90 a month for 1300mbps down, 40 up(I had it wrong earlier). We had to agree to a contract to get that, otherwise i think something like $32 more than that for 1100mbps. Only other choice in town is a miserable dsl service which is a bit less money but frighteningly slower speeds. I think we moved away from dsl something like 2001.

My old city had a similar deal with the town for exclusive high speed wired internet because they provided internet access to the town “gratis” meaning looks good but costs everyone more because no competition. For a while there was another company that had contractual access to the monopoly’s backbone. They had to provide a different wire to the house but otherwise all the same. That competition brought prices down considerably for a while. Not sure what happened back there but it was sweet.

I recall those times WH, with , I had an old Thomson Router, bought specifically for running a hack, to fool the exchange, everyone in the Ancient village of Avoch (Pronounced Awk) where I lived back then, were getting not much more than 1mbps, I was getting 8mbps, with the hack! Fun times…I also took the VoiP service, at £5 per month, free landline calls, and cell phone calls, anywhere in the UK… Just ran a test, via the Router interface, the speed appears to be increasing, just like the fibre engineer said it would…2341 Down, 2256 Up :slight_smile: Cheers Kev :wink:

I have seen a company providing internet service via satellite. Install a dish and you are connected with world. iPhone sms can send via satellite in the future. All these 40 years , world of internet are moving very fast, and we all have an opportunity to try it…

We could go with starlink, but there is a ground station you need to buy, and it would be more money than we pay now, but not much improvement in bandwidth.

I am in the beta of t-mobile’s deal with starlink. I could have used it today, I received several notifications that it was active. One issue with that is that it depends on a good view of the sky. So it won’t work in your buildings, and where I live the trees come up so you don’t see much of the sky. They plan to charge more for that in a few months when the beta ends. There are a lot of different possibilities. But nothing for me like the deal Kevin has!

Yeah @danka, I have possibly every TV Channel known to man, absolutely thousands of channels, I believe their service & servers originate, in Pakistan? I don’t really utilise these TV channels, as my only real interest in having them, is sport…Basically, anything that has a ball, then I will watch it :rofl: But you are :100: correct, everything moves at breakneck speed via the internet, it will advance faster with the advent of , my only caveat with AI is, we might bite off, more than we can chew, if we let AI run riot, with no stringent controls in place… Cheers Kev :wink:

I do hope, you get something WH, that will accommodate your internet needs… In my wildest dreams, I couldn’t have envisaged these speeds, in my rural setting, for an anorak like me, it is possibly “Internet Nirvana” :rofl: None of this would have happened, without government intervention… Technology is my passion, it has been for almost 30 years, from the 56k Modem days, we are now light years ahead, but in truth, I never thought, I would live long enough, to experience it! There is a saying " do not the block the globe from rotating" - everything is moving very fast. We are happy to see how technology advance from 56K Modem to 5…6G. You will live long enough to 10G to experience it!
If you have a chance to go to ShenZhen, China, you will be able to spend the whole month walking around a very big shopping mall whereby everything is on new technology. Language is not a problem; there is a translator gadget to helps you. Cheers Dan :grinning:

I love China, especially its antiquities,the food, its culture, its history, and its people, I love the Chinese “Can Do” attitude, but how the Chinese government treat some of their own, leaves me particularly appalled, but I am only getting that information third party, I don’t live there, nor have I ever been, but I would certainly love to visit, it has always been a pipe dream, to partially walk, the “Great Wall”… See the Gobi Desert, and visit Tibet, especially, “The Potala Palace in Lhasa”… There is a saying in Scotland, it’s translation means, may you live a long time; “Lang may yir lum reek” Cheers Kev :wink:

My understanding is that having Classic doesn’t necessarily mean it will work with Phonak BT phones. It isn’t clear to me what the BT is supposed to do. Sometimes I believe it is used allow calls to be taken on a cellphone. Bottomline: This stuff often takes a fair amount of research to confirm it will really do what you want it to.

Majority of the people in Asia are using VOIP to make calls around the world via the internet/telco system. Basically an old smart phone been turned into a VOIP phone - just installed an Apps such as WhatApps, WeChat , Telegram or some common Apps in your country.
Buy a data plan and you are free to call anyone.
