I do not believe in that statement. Ototoxic drugs mainly damage cochlea, not nerve. What was the drug? See here:

I would recommend that you consider having another ENT opinion. It is quite annoying that ENT oversimplifies the mechanism of hearing loss leading to not even considering CI option when it could be helpful.

Well, since I have to see an ENT as a next step anyway, that’s easy. I moved over 200 miles, and the one I saw (in another state) retired. Naproxen sodium, 550 mg morning and night for 8 years.

I’m glad to hear that you are hearing better with the adjustment! I hope it will also be easier for you to chat with your friends. I know how frustrating it is when everyone else talks and laughs about something, and I can’t understand. I agree with @Bimodal_user that visiting an ENT may not be a bad idea. In addition to getting another assessment on your hearing, you can get ear molds and/or a new pair that way.

Naproxen is unlikely to cause nerve damage. Regarding potential cochlear damage—it is rare, though possible, but not to the same degree as with some antibiotics (aminoglycosides).
