Hearing aid brands : Any thoughts on brands other than Phonak?

Thank you for sharing how you’re using your Shokz, that’s very helpful to understand.

I’m curious, what sound source are you typically connecting your Shokz to? For example, TV audio, phone calls, or a specific environment like church? That would help me better understand your setup.

Regarding sizing, we currently offer one size for the Jabees 7Seven. The band is flexible and fits most users, but for petite users who prefer a more secure fit, we offer a small accessory called the Secure Fit Loop that helps tighten the band comfortably. Even with new hearing aids, many people continue using bone conduction in certain situations, so it’s great that you’ve already found what works for you.

With the TV Connector, it does depend on how it is connected and which audio output port is used. So here in SA we have DSTV decoder boxes which are then connected to the TV, apps directly on the smart TV as well as external streaming boxes. So sometimes it helps to connect the TV Connector to the external streaming box and then use the remote for that box to adjust the volume you hear while your wife will then use the TV remote volume to set it at a comfortable level for herself or vice versa. The TV connector can use the standard analogue cable with an aux splitter for the older tv’s as well as an optical cable. The analogue cable however normally will cut out sound from the TV if plugged into the headset output port, hence the red and white splitter adaptor is helpful sometimes. Also the sound settings on your TV will affect what you hear where you need to ensure that your TV can have both TV Sound and Optical output sound at the same time as some TVs only allow for one sound output mode.

The most likely reason that your environmental sound / frequencies are muted when streaming is due to microphone volume setting in the streaming music and streaming speech programs. You can adjust the amount of volume reduction during streaming on Phonak Target. A microphone setting can be set to zero meaning no reduction in surrounding sound when connected to the TV Connector. The ambient sound can also be adjusted on the MyPhonak app while actively streaming.

Any thoughts on Unitron? I know Unitron is like a ‘sister’ company to Phonak as it falls under the Umbrella company of Sonova. Unitron seems to be almost identical to Phonak in terms of features where I am sure they will release their own AI verison of the ‘Sphere’ some time in the future.
