Judy_L asked for a description of the “Kill” setting & I apologize for my late reply.
I don’t know any particular name of a setting in the program the audiologist used at the lab. The best way I can describe is that sounds are artificially “bright”. For example, while typing this, the keys make a rather dull thud. On the “kill” setting, they sound like tapping a fingernail on the bottom of a plastic cup. Sharp, high treble sounds.
Walking on a hard floor is the same. On a normal setting, foot falls aren’t very noticeable. On the “kill” setting, foot falls sound like sand is being scraped under the foot.
As artificial as sounds are with that setting, it very much helps me understand voices in noisy environments.
