I thought you and others would like to know how my husband’s situation was finally resolved for the Lucid hearing aids he purchased from Sam’s Club. As you already know, several months ago, he called our local Sam’s Club to obtain service on his 2-year-old Lucid hearing aids, but was told by the audiologist that Sam’s was NO LONGER selling, nor servicing, nor providing supplies, etc. for the Lucid hearing aids purchased from them EVEN THOUGH they were still under warranty.
We immediately filed a complaint with our State AG and DOJ. Our State DOJ contacted Sam’s Club providing the receipt for the original purchase from Lucid, as well as the receipt for the new hearing aids he had to purchase elsewhere when Sam’s refused to provide any assistance. Long story short… We recently received a call from our NM DOJ advising they were emailing a letter to my husband FROM WALMART stating that they were going to provide a full refund to my husband. We contacted Walmart corporate, were instructed to go to our local Sam’s Club, and meet with one specific individual, in order to receive his refund! We did so, and have now received a FULL REFUND (an amount greater than $5,000).
Walmart and Sam’s Club know they failed to provide an easy transition for hearing aid owners, still under warranty, by not having the necessary organizational structure in place during the months when they discontinued the Lucid brand and found another outlet by which they could possibly service the hearing aids. In my husband’s case, he just happened to have an issue in the middle of Walmart/Sam’s Club “dry period” (or inability/unwillingness) to provide warranty service to their hearing aid customers.
In our situation, it was a matter of timing by needing service during that specific timeframe. Regardless of what we assume to be the uniqueness of the timing, I have to say that this situation has caused us to terminate ALL services and/or memberships we have with Walmart and their Sam’s Club entity. Once burned, twice shy!
The moral of the story is that if you are treated poorly and are unable to receive the professional services for which you paid, FILE A COMPLAINT with a governing entity. Our experience serves as evidence that you are only made whole when you suffer a loss and report unprofessional, unethical, and illegal treatment.
