Supposed to be resistant in water up to 1m for 30 minutes. So plenty of protection for sweat, rain and the odd water balloon fight. But I wouldn’t swim with them on.

That’s how I felt when I trialed the Trax 42. The Trax just seems more quieter because it blocks out the background noise but by doing that it also lowers speech aswell.
Yes, I’ve noticed that too. There is an “automatic equalizer” in the programming that can help balance this, I believe.

Sorry, what does it balance? And is this feature on by default?

The Automatic equalizer identifies 6 different environments. Different gain settings can be activated and defined for: quiet, speech in quiet, speech in noise, noise, music, and car. This is all part of the automatic program. The Trax also has a noise reduction system that reduces background noises (eg vacuum cleaner, fridge, hair dryer, fan, traffic noise etc), provides speech enhancement when background noise is present, and also has sound smoothing where unwanted over-amplified sounds such has the clanging of dishes or rustling of paper is avoided. Noise management can be adjusted (min, low, mild, med, strong, high, max), and sound smoothing has 3 settings. I don’t know if the noise reduction system can be adjusted in the automatic program however.

I have an apointment with the local Costco here in Alexandria, Va. It’s a new one very nearby. This will be my first and I already have an from an audiologist. I have much more loss on the right side ( otosclerosis) and am thinking about only getting one aid. Is this ok? Anything else I should know? I’m leaning to a Trax 42 or KS 6.

Oh, and if Pip is around this am, anything I should be aware of in getting aids set up at the Costco?

I have a bad ear too, Shrike. I wear two aids and wouldn’t have it any other way. Try a pair and you might share my view. My hearing is fuller with two.

New to hearing aids. Looking at Trax 42 seems like it does the job. Tried the Kirkland 6 thought it was too noisy when walking aroung the store compared with the Trax…better noise control. Will probably purchase to evaluate further but it seems to do the job. Without being able to evaluate in the home environment hard to be certain. Seems like a pretty complicated system, would have preferred the bluetooth in the but I guess there are negatives to that as well. Thanks everyone for putting their experience on the forum, it helps!

Went to Costco and was very impressed. Tech was nice, and thorough. Tried the Kirkland 6.0, and was amazed at how much better my hearing was, I felt 100% normal. We walked around the store, and I really liked it. Just noted a bit of hiss. I was only wearing one ( in my bad right ear). Then got the tech to try the Trax 42. Actually heard a significant improvement over the Kirkland 6.0 and no hiss at all! Tech still wants me to see an Otologist first, before buying though.
Since hearing is only bad in one ear. Wants to rule out other issues than Otosclerosis, like different kinds of tumors and such. Got an appt. with one in 2 weeks. Now, I am actually excited to get the Trax42.

Everyone has to be cleared by an . They need to make sure there is not a pathological reason for your loss (you listed a couple)…asymmetric loss is unusual in the absence of noise damage…so that’s a red flag worth checking out.
And what Chiroman said is correct regarding the Automatic Equalizer…so my Audi basically up’d the gain on the speech and turned down the background noise (ie. increased noise reduction) in the equalizer to help improve speech-in-noise.
…also, she slightly increased the speech frequencies (where my hearing is the worst) overall, which seems to help my speech discrimination with these ’s.
I also had the t-coil (mT) programmed into Program 4…for my desk phone and if I’m in a venue that uses t-coil.
I’ve still got a month to go on my trial with the Trax 42…but I see no reason to change. They are very robust, flexible and work very well. Strong battery life on the HA’s themselves and on the Smart Connect streamer. No complaints here.
Evil.

I have otosclerosis, like my dad. Also exposure to loud noise daily for 30+ years. I also had a head a couple years ago, with no abnormalities noted. So should be ok there.
Do you use the rechargeables or standard batteries?

No. That would be a nice feature they should consider adding. But it would also use a lot of battery power and doesn’t allow hands-free operation.

Is there any functionality using just an iphone and an app without a Smartconnect?
You can use an iPhone with the Smart Remote app to change programs on the hearing aids, adjust the volume, and mute the microphones. This functionality doesn’t require the Smart Connect Bluetooth streamer.

Doc…
That practical use or the specs? I’d imagine that any streaming would make a significant dent in those numbers.
