The whole Roger thing is complicated - Ulf posted a full explanation above in this thread about 2 months ago. I bought a select IN that comes with the type 3 receivers. Once the receivers from the IN are transferred to the marvels you can connect to the older, type 3, rogers like the older pen and older select but not to the type 2 stuff. There are also some other ways to do it, by buying just the receivers first but that way is more expensive. Unless you buy used like from Ebay. Ther are also some other ways. If you are really interested read through this, and all the other Roger threads. Prices are all over the place, a new IN pen is about $1000, a new IN select about $1500, used older pens about $100, I haven’t see older used selects for sale.

Glade to see this thread back as I just got a Select iN about a week ago. The thing works great in some situations,and not so good in others for me. I find in noisy places where people are talking over each other it’s not so good. I can turn on/off different mics on it but for my family that’s a lot of mic switching, but if I’m sitting at a table with some “low talkers” as I call them, the Select is great. A bit pricey at $1200.00. I will say when my wife wears it around her neck It is amazing! I can hear he whisper! (I may just keep it for that) anyway I just though I’d share a little of my experience with the select iN

If I ever get the naida marvels to trial I would consider also trying the Roger select. I just wonder how much it would really help since my speech comprehension is awful

Actually, the pro was a little big so i changed to a small stick-on tile. I really havent needed it yet but it is reassuring. The tiles have helped me keep track of my keys and phone .

I’ve been having excellent results with my Roger Select in noisy restaurants and in meetings, and not much trouble with background noise.

But I’m interested in the adjustments you make. How have you lowered the gain on the Roger program and raised EasyGain? I have an Audeo Marvel M90-13T and haven’t heard of EasyGain.

I was in a restaurant party last friday and I didn’t hear ANY difference comparing “HA alone vs. Roger Select with HA mic turned off”… It was very disappointing, even making volume adjustment in the verification mode in Roger Select didn’t help :confused:

The noise level was about 67-70 (if I can believe in smartphone app Sound Meter).

A restaurant party is a situation where the select works well for me. The trick is pressing the right buttons and being very selective with the mics and the balance adjustments. Still nowhere near how i used to hear in the good old days but much better then without the select.

Going to a McCoy Tyner memorial tomorrow night. Will be at a table of 8 in a loud jazz club. Will be a good test.

You have good low frequency hearing in your right ear (I have no idea what your left ear is like–I’m guessing either deaf or normal) That’s going to make it very difficult for any setup to deal well in noise unless you have occlusive ear pieces and a held very close to the source.

Zebras commented about this issue, too much ambient noise using the Roger. She mentioned if the streaming programming had too aggressive noise block features settings it would cause this issue. I do plan to try this because I too have this issue.

Yeas too much NoiseBlock actually reduces the Speech coming through the Mic.

I also have just reduced my WindBlock from 16 to 10 as that was also reducing the Speech coming through.

I’ve made fine adjustments to reduce noise and wind and it’s works a lot better.

Yes, my left ear is completely deaf (I tried to write in my profile Word Recognition Score 0% in left, but it didn’t appear in my public info, I don’t know why).
In that restaurant I have Bolero V70-P with earmold with 2mm vent so it’s somewhat occlusive.

I admit I had high expectations, because in November I tried Roger Select in ski restaurant with the same level of noise and it works surprisingly and incredibly perfect - I totally believe in Phonak evidence suggesting such significant improvement as at the picture below:

The only difference was smaller (1mm venting) and has been before adjustment month later. But I don’t think it make such distinct experience.

Another option is to reduce the over all gain by 10 as 03 receivers give you an extra 10 dB anyway. That way you have less noise coming through.

Reducing the gain by 10 dB will be okay as you get the added gain from the receivers.

Why Phonak don’t give such important information without with the device is near useless?

So, the conclusion is that Noise- and WindBlock interfere with Roger Select working and its adaptive gain.

It seems to lower Speech coming through the mic and also if you are streaming music through your Roger.

I find I can’t have SoundRelax, NoiseBlock and WindBlock above number 10 otherwise Speech is quieter.

But does it make a difference when I have the program (DAI only) in which I have no input from microphones only from Roger?

Maybe I should have every “-Blocks, - Relax” on zero…

I find Speech to not be as clear even when I have no Mics on. I lower everything to 0 when I don’t have my Mics on.

Okay, admittedly I try also the “ mic+Roger mic” also (no difference), but I didn’t had adjusted the “-Blocks, and - Relax” so I going to come to my Audi to make adjustments. Unfortunately I haven’t Phonak Target.
