I can’t say about rechargeables but from my experience with the Paradise 90-UP (675 batteries), I don’t feel like Bluetooth Classic drains the battery that much at all. I get about 1.5 week worth of battery life before having to switch them.
Well, personally I hope Phonak sticks to Bluetooth Classic for the time being (and making non-rechargeable aids too
), they’re the only brand that allows me to connect to any Bluetooth device like any other headphones user. It is a very liberating experience, especially coming from MFI-only hearing aids before. My only gripe with it is not being able to use my iPhone microphone rather than the worse hearing aid microphone but I don’t have to make calls that much so I can live with it.
I’m sure the other options like MFI, are nice but there are so many devices that we can connect to with Bluetooth Classic (computers, TV, gaming consoles just to name a few…). I don’t care about LE audio if it means I’ll only be able to use it on the one or two devices that will support it for the next few years.
So yes it may be stupid on a purely technical level like you say, but I really don’t think so on a practical level. It’s so much better not having to use an intermediate device to stream audio directly to my aids anymore!

I agree with ya, yeah i’m talking about it on a technical level!

I haven’t broken down the elements of a third-party driver, so perhaps some here can enlighten the rest of us.
USB headsets and audio receivers are fairly common nowadays, so that part of the chain is well understood in the consumer electronics industry.
I see Realtek has some HAP devices (components) listed. I get it takes a while to implement new devices in production, having myself spent some time in product development.
I also see the new HAP 1.0 specification appears to support some 2-way BTLEA functionality…would it be a leap to say that?
https://www.bluetooth.com/specifications/specs/hearing-access-profile-1-0/2
“In a Hearing Aid Set, an implementation can decide to expose the availability of a microphone from one hearing aid or both hearing aids to send the user’s voice to the peer device (e.g., smartphone, laptop, etc.) during a call.”
There is also MICP Microphone Device role (C.2) that is listed there. It seems like a control protocol, but it begs the question: Would some hardware/firmware already support some form of full-duplex BTLEA streaming?
That doesn’t mean the end-products are coming soon; what’s the community take on that? Also, are the bones of something at least functionally equivalent to A2DP in there?

Perhaps they are building off Apple’s to create a standard. Many network standards were developed using proprietary technology from Cisco as a starting point.
Power over Ethernet standards started with Cisco’s own proprietary feature but not totally backward compatible. After the standard, Cisco moved their product line to the new standard.
The network discovery LLDP started with parts of Cisco’s CDP. In this case, Cisco implements both, claiming there are more features in their own version.

Is this what we are waiting for?

Well, yes. There’s a demo of it in action linked to elsewhere on this forum. You would need to have aids or buds that have Bluetooth .
