Yes, this is what is done. It’s a psychometric staircase method and thresholds are only counted on upwards runs. It just appears to go down to you because it starts high and goes down and then goes up and down and up and down, but you obviously cannot perceive it coming up because you cannot hear tones that are below your threshold.

I have used IN-situ inside a phonak and Unitron hearing aid. And from my experience I can say that it is not so reliable.
I don’t know why, but when I worked in-situ for the first time it was like I couldn’t hear those sounds that I was doing in that chart. Because the ear is not used to the sounds reproduced by the hearing aid.
When I wore hearing aids, often the sounds were painful, too strong bass, too high high frequencies. I adjusted it at least 10 times, over 1-3 weeks. After a long period of getting used to the sounds from that hearing aid, I could better hear the sounds that were quiet before when I was working in-situ.

I think that in-situ requires more time, a period of getting used to and a period of patience to achieve the maximum.

Just an observation. When I went private and bought Paradise P90s, my Audiologist did a standard, in the booth, Audiogram. He then ordered Custom Slimtips. When they arrived, he did Audiodirect. He said my hearing wasn’t as bad and put it down the the RICs were nearer to my eardrums.

Since then, I’ve self programmed:
Bolero M70 thin tubes & SlimTips
Audeo P90 RIC & Slimtips
Naida P30 thick tubes and full moulds

I used his Audiodirect Audiogram for all 3. However, since then, I’ve done new, separate, Audiodirects for each HA, and they are all quite different! I should have guessed to be honest.

I’ve used Audiogram Direct on 4 different sets of aids and have had excellent results each time. If I set my levels using the lowest volume level I can hear then my end result is not enough volume. So I usually turn each volume slider up about one or two steps above where I first hear the tone. If I don’t like the result I will go in and just adjust the sliders up or down instead of re-running the program.

If I remember correctly you can choose whether to use the AD results or another audiogram.
