Newbie Question: Two types of hearing aids on one iPhone?

I’m in the middle of trialing two different pairs of . I’ve been trialing a pair of Starkeys, and I just picked up a pair of Philips 9050s from Costco.

In the setup this morning, the Costco audiologist said there is no way to connect the Philips HAs to my phone without disconnecting the Starkey HAs. So I did. But now, if I want to switch back to the Starkeys, I apparently have to delete the Philips profile. I can’t find a way to have both.

Both apps coexist just fine on the phone… the issue is that there doesn’t seem to be a way to add a second device-profile in Settings/Accessibility/Hearing Devices on the phone.

Is there a way? Or… will I have to delete one device-profile from that setup screen and (re)create a profile for the other devices every time I want to switch?

(In case anyone cares: one set is on trial from an audiologist I know, but who does business several states away, and says that there is no problem fitting and adjusting them without ever actually having me in the office. The other pair is because I wanted to go through the whole process - in-person consultation, fitting, real-ear measurement, dome sizing, etc, to see how it goes and see if I can tell the difference)

From what I understand , this is a limitation of apple’s MiFi protocol . I’ve only been able have two different ones if one of them is a Phonak (because Phonak does not use miFi)

OctamSagev is correct - only one at a time. Thanfully pairing and re-pairing is fairly straightforward and should take a minute or so.

Part of my thought (*) was to have a backup pair so that if one set was low on power at the end of a long day, I could just take them out, put in the others and be off and running. I had also thought it would be interesting - and maybe even useful - to switch back and forth in (e.g.) a noisy environment to see which one handles it better. I guess switching will be (slightly) more involved, but OK.

(*) “thought” is probably an overcharacterization This is my first experience with , and the list of things I know nothing about is mind-numbingly long.

When I had Phonaks and Oticon, I could keep both paired to phone but that is because Phonak uses a different Bluetooth to Oticon.

I have not used Starkey or Philips, however I have three different sets of Phonak hearing aids on my phone. They trick for me was to find three different apps so that each could be connected to a different set of aids. I don’t know why a Starkey app and a Philips app could not co-exist on the same phone. My experience is with Samsung only.

I have paired both Phonak Infinio Sphere and Phonak Paradise. They’re with Bluetooth Classic.

However, I needed the Amplifon app to pair my Paradise hearing aids to the same smartphone. I use the Phonak app for my Sphere hearing aids. Bluetooth Low Energy is used for both apps.

I understand needing to set-up different as if they’re new to a phone every time. I understand not being able to connect 2 aids to an iphone at once with the (A@#$%^) iphone being unable to switch from one to the other. I think that’s true even if you have 2 sets of the same model - they’re dfferent devices, and I can understand not spec’ing IOS to handle multiple pairs of HAs (but that’s because I think Apple aims for slickness, not functionality).

But can’t you control both sets without the app? When I bought my Jabras, the Resound app was supposed to be tops, but it still sucked. There are things I can do with the app that I can’t do with the buttons on the aids, but I can select programs and change volume with the buttons. Can you do that, or do your HAs require the app?

Not sure if this question was directed at me, But no you do not require the app for the Phonak hearing aids. Program and volume changes can be made with buttons on the aids. I do not know about other brands but I would assume it is the same.

I agree, …… mostly. You can change programs via buttons but for the personalized programs, you can only change to the last personalized program you selected in the app. Muting the mics is an issue unless your programmed one of the buttons to do that. Fine tuning the programs or changing the volumes different for each side need the app.

Need? No, probably not. But pretty dang nice to have sometimes.
