Without contrast and with contrast, the order was sent to the radiologist. I got this much out of asking the woman who did the test.
I should be able to see something online tomorrow or the next day.

Finding a good / Otolaryngologist is not easy.
It may be a matter of luck.

That’s the truth Speedskater.
This one is referred by someone who I think has good judgement.
My old one was fine, then he retired, the office went corporate, and I’ve seen 2 docs since, the first one was null-set, the second one I don’t like at all. He might be a good doc, but not for me.
Onward I go.

From what I can tell of the medical jargon on the , it seems no tumors or anything else unusual. But there are a lot of terms that I’m not understanding, even when I look them up.
I am beginning to think the delay between my complaint and the appointment to get the prednisone might be the problem, that is, if it was long COVID. This really bums me out.
As a musician, I depend on my ears. And right now, I am having a lot of trouble with high pitches sounding out of tune, and difficulty understanding what people are saying when they talk to me.
Not sure what to do.
The new is early August, so I guess I just need to be patient until then.

I just want to jump in here and say I’m 46 and while I’ve been told a will improve my hearing exponentially, I will never have one. That’s my choice, as it is yours. Maybe one day you’ll also decide differently.
I’m so sorry this has affected you and changes like these can be really frustrating. So I just wanted to say I see you.

So sorry that things aren’t looking good so far. I hope that further information will be more positive. ![]()

@BobbyBoomer Are your hearing aids programmed to use /SoundRecover/frequency transposition? That will distort the pitch of your high frequency hearing, so it might help to ask your audi to turn it off in the Music program.

This pitch problem is truly infuriating. I’ve checked and double checked both high and low notes on my Alesis keyboard with iPhone tuning apps, and still can’t quite believe how wrong they sound. Used to play violin, no way I could do that now! Sending you sympathy!

Don’t let this bum you out. Realistically, we don’t even have strong data showing that prednisone works at all. It’s a Hail Mary.

Cello? (Just kidding) I feel for you, a musician NEEDS to play.
I mostly play tenor sax, and it’s Ok, except I don’t play altissimo fingerings anymore, they are high and need to be lipped in tune. Flute? I don’t play the third octave for the same reason. With my wind synth, I play, knowing I’m pressing the right keys, but it sounds off, so only memorized parts. Same for guitar.
Singing, I’m a baritone, but sometimes have a difficult time getting my pitch if there is a lot of highs in the accompaniment.
Musician is not only what I do, but what I AM.
I’m thinking about snake oil
(read: getting desperate)
New doctor and old doctor appointments coming up, so I haven’t lost all hope yet.
Although we play clubs, restaurants and private parties, we also play at Assisted Living Facilities and at the nursing home at the local Hospital. It’s rewarding to see someone locked inside themselves brighten up and sing a song they once knew.
If I can’t fix it, I’ll have to do what I can to adjust.

Sorry for asking, but I don’t remember: do you have hearing aids? If so, are these reprogrammed for your new loss?

birdcountry: I have a lot of respect for Mr.Simon and I’ve seen a few things about his speaker setup. I’ll check this out.
I put the PA into my hearing aids. With ear molds, it helps keep the room noise out, so I can listen at a low, non-damaging volume.

Still discovering what compromises need to be made for this new reality.

There is many workarounds to get the most from the hearing aids:
more closed earmold - better amplification for low frequency sounds and high frequencies (the latter because of higher feedback threshold)
More powerful receiver
More powerful , like Naidas or Oticon Xceeds?
Without your HA model, type of acoustic coupling and diameter of vent it is difficult to state whether you have exhausted all options. I respect you don’t want to share your , but it also can provide much insight about your potential problems.
Of course, is necessary to make sure you get proper amplification near the eardrum…

Thanks, things to bring up to the /Audio
Phonak Audeo Lumity ($7k USD), about a year or so ago. Custom ear molds.
I’m still hoping something can be done to improve the situation. New doc comes highly recommended.

And which receiver - M, P or UP? What diameter of venting? Even those ‘small’ issues are essential for hearing outcomes. Sorry for being explicit, but those issues matter most, keeping in mind the audibility and quality of sounds.
