Fair enough. Good enough to indicate the presence of some loss perhaps, but nowhere near good enough for the basis of programming an aid.

Below three test results from HearingTest.Online, all taken the same day. I had professional linear headphones for this:

It gives you an idea, but it is very unreliable and you donโ€™t have a baseline, thatโ€™s the main thing, you donโ€™t have a baseline.

The in-situ on my hearing aids (Oticon Real 1), which I got a bit later, was very accurate and matched the professional audiogram well. (Not perfectly, but well.)

The hearing test that your GP can do for you is nowhere near a professional audiogram, but itโ€™s calibrated, there is a baseline. That might be the best you can do as a first step.

Both Boots and Specsavers will give you a good test and they each offer good ranges. Boots maybe more expensive but they have a more comprehensive package. Plus a โ€˜Pay Monthlyโ€™ option.

Boots Hearingcare is owned by Sonova, arguably the world number one hearing aid provider. So their products are a little more prominent but they carry some other options too. Specsavers have own brand aids made for them by leading providers as well as the big name aids.

I am also an avid music listener & my NHS supplied Signia Stretta M although pretty good generally (I have worn them for about six months) cannot do justice to streamed music. I always use my Apple AirPods Pro 2 (after configuring the EQ by the Apple hearing test).

FYI the Apple closely matches the Audiologist version & my listening experience has been transformed, I didnโ€™t realise what I had been missing (top end mostly), so I havenโ€™t bothered to use the NHS audiogram.

In reply to @Jkenny99

I went with Boots initially and their testing was OK. Make sure that you book a full hearing test and not the screening test. The full test is more thorough and covers a wider range of frequencies than the screening test. Donโ€™t rush into buying aids without doing plenty of research beforehand, I had regrets about the first aids I bought and felt I had been โ€œencouraged โ€œ to select that model. You are spending a lot of money so you need to get it right. I am now with an independent audiologist, itโ€™s not much more expensive, but the service and programming is much better.
