Debating between these hearing aids. I do have the Starkey Edge 24 and love those, but I am hearing a lot of good things about the Phonak Infinio Sphere l90. I never tried them, but I did try the Phonak Audeo Infinio l90 and as far as sound quality it sounded dull to me. What do you guys think?
The main advantage of the Sphere is the speech performance in loud environments. Your hearing loss is mild so I don’t know if this something that is affecting you with your current aids. The Sphere is a game charger, the non-spheres are not.
I don’t think there is an advantage of the non -Sohere vs what you currently have.
FWIW.
I have the Starkey.
Mine perform exceptionally well in loud noisy environments.
Just used them in a very noisy restaurant.
There were seven of us.
I had no trouble understanding everyone.
You should try both and see which one is the best for you.
The does show mild hearing loss, but my case is a bit different. I am wearing the hearing aid for low gain. My issues overlap with each other bisensorneural hearing loss both ears, apd, tinnitus, tensor tympani, and stapedial myclonus syndrome. So it varies, and on the right ear, I have hyperacusis, so these hearing aids help me by lowering the volume and background noise. I just wasn’t sure what to get. I mean I have Starkeys already, but streaming is not that great with them and the mic is not that great on them either. When people hear me talk on the phone, I sound robotic unless I take LE off, and then have to use the phone as the speaker.
The Phonaks will be better for streaming because it uses Bluetooth classic , they are like wearing regular headphones.
Only way to find out is to try them .
It is rather suboptimal programming with Spheres. Do they have the same acoustic coupling as Starkeys? Were Starkeys and Spheres -based fitted or only one of them? Which fitting algorithms were used in both ?
Soon it will be NAL-NL3 fitting algorithm released with module for mild to zero tonal udiometry hwaring loss. It will probably be since autumn 2025 or the beginning of 2026.
I’ve just tuned in to see how you are getting on with your comparison between the Starkeys and the Phonaks.
I’ve gone for the Starkey Edge 24 and, with quite a bit of work and tuning up with my audiologist, I’m making good progress toward some quality listening. I started a thread here, where I’ve set out some of my findings. With noise reduction I found that I wasn’t necessarily setting the Starkeys for optimal performance so I should get better results now.
I haven’t had any problems with the Bluetooth and, as far as streaming from my iPhone or other streaming device, I realise that the Starkeys will only provide amplification for the higher frequencies - where my hearing loss is greatest. So yes, I hear a “tinny” sound due to the fact that I’m relying only on the Starkey’s mics. However, if I put on some headphones, they present all of the lower frequencies that enter my ear in addition to the higher frequencies the Starkeys process.
I’m quite satisfied with the Starkeys on their own for phone speech and broadcast news streaming since I don’t expect any sort of wide frequency band response.
For music listening, that’s another matter. I rarely use the Starkeys in direct streaming mode. I set them to Music mode when listening to my stereo system or my headphones when walking around the house. I get the iPhone to stream direct to the headphones.
