Last Friday I went in for a new hearing test and the suggested that I switch from Oticon Open 8mm domes to Bass 8mm Single Vent (left) and Bass 8mm Double Vent (right). When I first put the single vent into my ear (at the fitting), I felt a little pressure, then it equalized and seemed fine. The double vent did the same, but to a much lesser degree. Okay, I thought, I’ll give these a try.
I wore them the rest of Friday and all day Saturday before giving up and switching back to the open domes. I found that the domes move around in my ear canal when I chew or move my head, and recreate the pressure situation, muting sound. If I poke around at the dome, it eventually resolves, but I’m thinking this is not workable. The problem is mainly with the single vent, and, to a lesser degree, the double vent.
Are the domes the wrong size? Too small (they move around too much causing the pressure situation to occur frequency)? Too big (the vent is getting crushed closed)? What should I expect in terms of how the vent works, doesn’t it exist (at least partially) to prevent a pressure difference?
