Newly diagnosed “cookie bite”Adelaide Australia

Age 55, just had first prompted by my sister getting hearing aids and husband encouraging me to.
Guess I will get hearing aids but will be fussy about how music sounds (am a musician hobbyist) as well as have added complication of needing to use stethoscope at work.
Also the dread of thinking I will have same constant troubles with aids as my elderly mother has had with hearing aids ugh.
I have been saying for years if I get as bad as her I would like a cochlear implant.
Would love any encouraging comments
Also if anyone knows an expert audiologist innAdelaide for cookie bite that would also be helpful.

Welcome to the forum. Finding the right Audiologist is hard, one that listens to what you’re saying, and works with you. Make sure you get a trial of the aids so you can try them out in the real world. But do read your contract properly so you can return them within the required time frame if necessary. Each company’s aids will sound a bit different, so choose one you like the sound of. Choose a company that sells several major brands of aids. Several of the music lovers/players on the forum like the Widex brand. Get Bluetooth aids so when/if your loss deteriorates you can get a stethoscopes to use at work.

Sometimes I find editing a bit persnickety, I end up quoting by accident and having to remove, etc. Some days, my tablet virtual keyboard is too small for my fingers, seems like. Welcome to the forum! No worries about spelling, I doubt anyone will grade you. :grinning:

Edited to add: My primary care doctor wears hearing aids and uses a Bluetooth stethoscope, and says it’s both accurate and convenient.

Your loss is a long ways away from needing cochlear implant! :smile: I wouldn’t expect you to have near as many issues as your elderly mother for multiple reasons: Your loss isn’t as bad, hearing aids are better and I’m guessing you’re a lot more comfortable with tech than your mother.

@Aussiesarita, as, nomen omen user, and physician - despite being advocate - believe me - you don’t want to be implanted having relatively mild-to-moderate hearing loss!

Hearing aids and non-Bluetooth traditional stethoscope are a bit hassle, but only a bit. Overall quality of life improves often drastically after getting properly fitted hearing aids. In addition, you will be much less exhausted after work and social interactions, because mental overload due to limited auditory data is energy-consuming.

I strongly recommend long-lasting battery for shifts, like big battery in Phonak Audeo Infinio Sphere 90. In my case it can last over 30h, but it is with leaky power domes, which activate antifeedback mechanism quite often (it uses power a bit), so when I get my closed cShell (kind of earmold) it could be even better due to not engaging it.
