Why only one audiogram test?

Just curious. I have had for over 10 years. been to 5 or more audiologists. All have the same test results . FAILED. So I purchased hearing aids. They send me home and tell to come back in a week a report my hearing. Shouldn’t they repeat the test??? They do a . But that just tests the heading aid, not me. Has anyone have a done after getting Hearing aid? That would make sense to me . Going to ask for one and see if I pass. Not complaining, But everything else I get tested on. If I fail, I have to retake the test till I pass.

Why is an audiogram not repeated with hearing aids in?
I am wondering why an audiogram is not run after fitting. You wear earphones and indicate your hearing levels to measure where the hearing loss is greatest. Why do the audiologists not program the HAS and then repeat the test while we are wearing them ? Wouldn’t this be a good way of measuring their effectiveness ?

Exactly, especially it’s useful in patients with ear canals larger or smaller than average. Or if they are much more unusual, such as bendy, with rarer kinds of resonance peaks than most people.

Thanks for the info. I did a search. I didn’t see this thread. Actually I was just being sarcastic to Audiologists. A good test is the word recognition test before and after. I’m sure we will be doing that one in the future.

When it comes to good sarcasm, you’ll find that I’m an appreciative audience member, as well as an enthusiastic deliverer!

On a more serious note, I’ve read that testing with hearing aids in place is typically called in-situ audiometry. It’s easy to check whether hearing aids function, but vital to ensure they function as needed/wanted by the wearer. That’s the challenging part of the whole thing! :grin:

Thanks for the response. Yes your right. I should have said that was the only test. But the checks the sound of the in the ear canal to see if it matches the program the audiologists made based on my hearing loss. according to my Audiologists. I’m sure we will be doing more test in the future.

Thanks. Yes the is a good tool for the audiologists to have in their toolbox. A good clinic should have the latest technology . My problem is not the audiologists or the . It’s me. I need to take good notes. I’m going from Phillip(cosco) HA to the phonak sphere. My first HAs Starkey Xino. They were the best so far. Hope the phonak is ss good or better. Only my third day with them.
