MyPhonak App for iphone

There was a new release of the MyPhonak app for iphone. It is version 7.2.0.1995 Released by Sonova AG. In the What’s new on my Phonak - it states it has new and improved functions: Simplified pairing process is among the listed functions. My experience, yes it is improved, but it is not perfect. The pairing process is better. Sometimes i can actually put my aids on in the morning and they will connect automatically to the App. Including the 3rd connection in Bluetooth. Notice that I said sometimes. Some mornings I still have to power the aids off/on. This morning i could not get them connect, so I rebooted the iphone and powered the aids off/on, they connected fine - both to the app and the 3rd Bluetooth connection. Like I said, the connection process is much improved, but it still needs some “tweaking”.

You should be aware that pairing is a technical term. That process only has to happen once per device-device pairing. (Paradise, lumity and infinio aids with can hold 8 simultaneous conventional BT pairings with other devices.) Connection is what happens when two devices that are paired establish a connection for data communication. (P, L & I can do 2 simultaneous connections. One of those connections maybe actively communicating at a time

Improved pairing doesn’t necessarily affect connecting. I don’t know what is impeding your connecting. The app isn’t really directly involved in the classic BT pairing. It uses the LE connections to control the aids. They are only really important if you want to change something or check on something with your aids. Not needed at all for streaming or calls.

When I power cycle either my phone or the BT master in the day, there is a good chance the BT pairing won’t be connected. Usually I can hit the pairing in the BT section of my iPhone control panel and it will connect immediately. Rebooting is rarely needed. iPhone 13 Pro Max and infinio spheres. iOS at 18.6.2. Myphonak app updated about 3 weeks ago. No issues here.

If I’m having trouble connecting, I force kill the MyPhonak app in the iOS App Switcher (swipe the app up and off the screen). Then relaunch the MyPhonak app. It will usually reconnect promptly. I also have the STAY CONNECTED option turned on under Connection Management in the Devices tab of the MyPhonak app (compared to the use of Classic Bluetooth for streaming, I don’t think the STAY CONNECTED option burns that much battery - and I never use more than 40% to 50% of my battery charge during a day anyway).

BTW, although the new version of the app that came out several months ago has improved performance, etc., I find while running during the day, the MyPhonak shows about 10% state of charge more than indicated the next day when I go to charge up the aids again. Perhaps the “overestimate” of % SOC is because the batteries are warm while running and read a higher voltage after running warm (we also keep our house in the low 80s (° F) during the summer, which might contribute to battery warming).

Thanks for the tip. I was never sure how to close an app on this new iphone. Finally searched for the procedure. Now I can close the MyPhonak app and restart it. The few times I have tried it, it has connected in the app and the connections are also made. I too have the STAY CONNECTED option turned on. Don’t notice any excessive battery discharge, but I am not huge iphone user.

Forgot to mention. If I have trouble with streaming, I swipe down from the top on the right side of my screen to bring up the iOS CONTROL CENTER. I tap on BT settings in the Control Center widgets and scroll down through the BT device listings until I find the R-Phonak hearing aid listing. If the listing says, “Not Connected,” I tap on that, and usually within a second or two, it will switch to “Connected.”

Despite Apple’s supposed prowess, I’ve had times when iPhone BT is just flaky. Usually, I find turning my iPhone off and rebooting fixes that (and it’s mostly with my EV, which wants a BT connection to run Apple CarPlay on the vehicle’s “Infotainment” screen, IIRC). So, I think some iPhone BT connectivity problems go beyond the MyPhonak app and are baked into iOS.
