Hello, new to web site. We bought a new Samsung tv which does not have an optical output. It just has an HDMI ARC. I am trying to figure out how to get the audio from the tv to my adapter. It looks like you use an audio extractor. I am trying to figure out how this would work
I use the fiber optic audio cable on my Samsung Smart TV to the TV Adapter, but t works great and it doesn’t effect the TV speakers. I can even mute the TV and still have audio through the adapter to my aids.
You can buy an audio extractor with HDMI input and multiple outputs, including optical and HDMI, so you’d go from the TV to the extractor via HDMI and then send sound to 1) the optical output and to the TV adapter and 2) HDMI to your sound system. If you do this, read the writeup of the extractor very carefully.
Does your new TV have ? Do your aids have or BT LE? If so, you might be better off with an auracast receiver that sends output via BT or BTLE to your aids.
I tried an audio extractor and it did not work. HDMI ARC to extractor to the Oticon adapter. We have blue tooth in the tv but does not work with aids I am pretty sure that the aids have BTLE. I have ear buds but there is a short lag in the audio so not very nice. I think the options are 1 try an audio ADAPTER (hdmi input but no hdmi output) 2 try BT headphones so I do not hear any other sound except what comes from the headphones or get a or ear mould. If anyone is using either an hdmi extractor or adapter I would be interested in knowing the brand.
IIRC, some adapters do optical-in but not optical-out, at least that what it looked like when I last researched the question 5-6 years ago.
Also, if you use a streamer like a Roku, you may still be able to connect your aids to the streamer. That worked great, except that it didn’t help me with OTA stations. I just looked at my Roku (Streaming Stick 4K from a couple of years ago) settings, though, and I didn’t see how to do it. IIRC, it involved a remote that allowed a headphone to be attached, and my aids acted as headphones connected over . I don’t know if that’s still available. The remote that came with my Roku doesn’t seem to allow headphones.
I tried an audio extractor and it did not work. HDMI ARC to extractor to the Oticon adapter.
You may need to ensure that the optical output format of the extractor is compatible with the Oticon TV Adapter 3. More modern/complicated formats are probably not supported (the technical data sheet I found on the Oticon web site for the adapter lists only PCM and Dolby Digital). Can you configure the output format of the extractor one of those?
