Phonak Lumity doesn't always turn off in the charger, feeds back, and turns red

After about 2 years with no problems, my Phonak Lumity doesn’t always turn off in the charger, and they feed back. I can’t hear it, because my are out, but my wife can. It turns the LED in the left HA red in the charger.

It’s happened twice in the past week now.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

You might try turning them off using the switch on the hearing aid before placing it in the charger, and see if it still throws a red light. If they’re still under warranty, I’d send them in for repair or replacement.
I suppose you’ve already made sure the charging port is clean and unobstructed?

I’m not sure whether the contact points line up that way, but I’ve seen it recommended as a troubleshooting method here on the forum.

Left and right hearing aids are only made so by the receivers and the color tabs used to indicate. The connections should be the same.

True, they should! I was mostly thinking about possible minor variations in construction and alignment related to the ports.

Maybe in addition to turning them off before putting them in the charger, in the Phonak app under ‘Devices’ you can set them to NOT automatically turn on when removed. Otherwise, if there is momentary interruption of the current to the charger, they will automatically turn on. Not sure if they would stay on, but you could experiment.

This has happened to me several times. My husband will tell me that my aids are squealing. To solve it, I have shoved the aids into the charger a bit more and the sound has stopped.

I also think that the charger itself could get dusty. I would check that as well.

Thank you all for your kind replies. I’m going to try them, starting with the easiest first.

I cleane out the ports, they weren’t dirty, as I keep the lid closed, but there was a small hair in one, and I’ll be sure to push them in all the way.

Our power does go off and on a lot (We call Florida Power & Light, “Florida Flash & Flicker” so I’ll notice if it happens the same mornings that I have to set the digital clock on the microwave.

I cleaned out the charger (there was a tiny hair in one side) and a couple of charges later, I opened the case and the red light on the left aid was lit. I don’t know if it was feeding back or not, I can’t hear that without my aids. It did charge both L and R to 99% so that was normal.

It’s not nearly as hot as it was last week, so I doubt that it’s temperature related.

I think my next step might be to call the audiologist who sold them to me.

All fixed. The audio sent it back to Phonak and they repaired it. There was no report of what was wrong with it (I’m just curious). Anyway, It’s working fine now.

It was still under warranty, and the audio had a slightly lesser quality Phonak pair that I could use while it was in transit and repair. Every business is in the customer service business, and both my audio and Phonak did the right thing.

Actually, they weren’t that misspent. I’m a career musician, and it turned out to agree with me.

I remember Mr. Natural quite well. He spent many years with his likeness adhered to the bumper of any car my mom owned. I was born in 1960, and while I was in elementary school my mom and I used to go to Licorice Pizza in downtown Long Beach, California when it was an independent record store. They gave you red or black licorice with your purchase, and also sold posters and candles. I was allowed to read Fat Freddy’s Cat comic books, as well as Freak Brothers comics, and could easily spot any illustrations by R. Crumb. I like to think that in that aspect, I was raised right. :slightly_smiling_face:

Well. I must admit I’d never looked at it closely and I had always thought it was a roast chicken. And additionally, that roast chicken was so recognizable that if you changed your icon I’d probably miss that I was still talking to the same person. You’ve just been the roast chicken guy in my head until now.

Now that I see the little man, I can’t see the roast chicken anymore.

If you are having a happy life, and not hurting others, IMO you were raised right.

R.Crumb comics were delightful. Although I don’t remember them that well. You see, there were the late-50s/early-60s, —– then the mid-70s, and everything in between was a blur. :smiley: :smiley:

Seriously: From the viewpoint of a pro-musician, the late 60s and early 70s had some of the most complicated and challenging rock music ever recorded. I didn’t say best, that’s a matter of taste, and I like all kinds of music. But it was a very interesting time to be a musician, and to read counterculture comics.
