I have been using the Widex evoke 440 and they really suited me well. Been using Widex(with different models) since the year 2000 . Currently , my audiologist recommended the top model in the phonak lumity BTE for trial. However , I hear the speech in a muffled, blocked manner even with multiple adjustments. The sound randomly drops and then surges up . Is this expected or is it just me ? Somehow I feel the latest hearing aids even though with multiple features and aren’t exactly the best.
I’ve been to two extremely noisy restaurants in the last two weeks.
Both times I used the Edge mode with noise reduction. It worked extremely well. Without Edge mode I would have just muted my hearing aids.
My experience has been it depends on multiple factors. I wear moulds with a vent so I get the max benefit of Edge mode.
I went to my son and daughter in law’s shower/party last week. I muted the aids. Nothing could help. You were in a 20X15X8 room with 20 are more people all trying to be heard.
Yesterday I was in a church with cathedral ceilings, tile floor and brick walls. The echo is crazy. I tried edge mode in best environment mode. It went crazy. It did what you said. Cut in and out. Raised volume, lowered volume. I went back to personal mode. That worked the best.
If you get on well with Widex it may be worth staying with them? It can be a lot to get used to a new brand and there have been advances made since the Evokes.
Thank you. I have been thinking along the same lines!!. Maybe it is the best option to visit another audiologist who sells widex hearing aids and give that a try. The current one no longer sell widex and have been saying widex no longer sells the bte models.
My Dad has been fitted with Widex Moments recently and has got on really well with them. I have the Moment customs 440. It’s a more natural sound than the Evokes due to faster processing & the overall platform is fundamentally the same as the Evokes with the sound classes etc. Just subtle improvements from the previous which already worked really well for me. Perhaps contact a Widex dispenser and ask about the BTE options. The Allure is the latest model.
The general consensus I’ve noticed, including from top reviewers like Dr. Cliff and Matthew on YouTube, is that Widex users often remain loyal to the brand because of its unique approach to sound.
The Lumitys isn’t overly aggressive (unlike their latest Sphere model), and the changes mentioned might be linked to a feature called AutoSense. Adjusting the “Program Transition Speed” setting in the programming software could make a difference. The muffled or blocked speech issue might also be resolved through programming adjustments.
The Widex Moment model is indeed older, having been released in late 2021, but the Phonak Lumity is also considered an older model, launched in the summer of 2022.
I wouldn’t blame AI but rather (a) what you’re accustomed to and (b) programming issues. Even the worst , if well programmed, will outperform a good HA that’s poorly programmed.
Been trying several hearing aids recently. The current audiologist is hell bent on phonak naida L90 UP. However I found the sound to be muffled and too loud at time. Inspite of multiple visits for tuning the sound still seems super muffled. Since my loss is severe in one ear and profound in the other , I am more comfortable with a and have found a widex dispenser who has arranged for the BTE MOMENTS for trial next week. (Also tried the but found it okay okay ish. )Hope this suites me . Fingers crossed .
Thanks for the update and I will keep my fingers crossed this goes well for you. Let us know how you get on and glad that you found someone who can give you a trial.
I am currently trying the widex moment 220 (suites my budget more ) and I absolutely love it! I feel these are much better than the evokes in some ways. I changed the audiologist and he has tuned it exactly as per my liking . So yes , the audiologist also plays a very important role!!
Also , the plus point was he visited my home for the tuning , so I could give proper feedback of how the sounds are at home while talking to my family , neighbours , listening to the environment around my house etc!
My input of the moment so far.. love the loudness which it has( not too amplified ofc), the clarity of people speaking , can hear people talking pretty well in car ) .
Loved reading your update and I am so pleased for you. I know the immense difference hearing well makes to every bit of your life. The Moments have a great sound and it sounds like you had a great set up experience too. It’s very easy to become biased by what we are informed by a dispenser, so it’s great to have this forum available to us to find out what’s really available.
Before I bought these new hearing aids, I did a lot of research on Phonak, Starkey and Oticon. I tried the Phonak Sphere i90s and Starkey Omega. Both are unbelievable, but the Phonak Sphere i90’s had a few advantages. Previously, I had the Phonak Paradise hearing aids.
I paid $2327 for the Sphere i90s. I’m close to a severe hearing loss. The Sphere i90’s use two separate chips. The ERA chip is the sound processor, and the Deepsonic chip handles the noise reduction. When I tried the Sphere i90s, I was really surprised and pleased, especially with the Spheric noise in speech program. The battery life of 56 hours has turned out to be exceptional given the number of hours I have to use Bluetooth and the Spheric noise reduction. My batteries have never gone below 40% after 16 hours of use.
The online authorized Phonak audi I bought them from, Genesis-Hearing-Healthcare, has been great. I’ll miss Costco service on the Phonak Paradise aids (KS10s), but no regrets on Genesis. The service is excellent.
I have a couple of Phonak Roger devices and the Phonak personal mic. I use a VOIP landline speakerphone frequently. I attach the personal mic to the speaker and turn the phone volume way down. The personal mic streams the landline to my hearing aids. That really helps me understand people with accents.
I transferred the Roger licences from my KS10s to the Sphere i90s, which was a pain, but I got it done. (Thanks Phonak for that issue!)
Even though Genesis has great remote fitting options, I decided to return to . So far, it’s worked well.
