Question tor anyone that has hearing aids to wear while sleeping

Do any of you have hearing aids that you wear at night while sleeping? While I can hear things like doorbells, fire alarm, thunder and etc. I can not understand what anyone is saying with out my hearing aids. My wife gets so flustered with me at times, if I don’t have my aids in, bedtime then I can’t understand hat she is saying. I have emailed my audiologist asking if it is possible to have aids that I can wear at night. Je has emailed that he will set up an appointment to do just that, and I emailed that I already have an appointment for November 3rd so let’s just do it then.

I am just interested if any of my forum friends has them already and if so what type and possible what brand?

I work with peds but I have some kids that insist on wearing their aids overnight so they feel safer. I try to convince them to just wear one at a time if they must, to give the skin in their ears a break. Just something you could consider too.

I just wear my “daytime” hearing aids at night, and take them out midday-ish to charge them and let my ears get some air. I have frequent insomnia, and my wife sometimes has night terrors, so it’s convenient to “have my ears on” in order to listen for how her sleep is going. That way, if I need to wake her up, I can tell more easily by her breathing pattern.

I’ve worn my aids with soft silicone ear mould much 24/7 for decades now without any issues. A few considerations:

  • Lying on your side is different to lying on your back. If you lie on your side ,the earmould fitting needs to be pretty much spot on otherwise the feedback whistle will drive you notes.
  • It’s much easier with a 675 battery that lasts for a week and can be changed in seconds vs a rechargable aid that is designed to be charged overnight.
  • Sweat can be an issue if you sleep warm.
  • Can make the microphones more prone to being obstructed by dead skin, dust, etc on your pillows.
  • Give your ears a chance to adjust to it - take the aids out for a bit, take nights off initially etc.

I generally where wear hearings aid to bed.

I use my old aids as sleep aids. My tinnitus is off the charts at night when everything is quiet. I’ll use my tinnitus program.

The only problem is the receiver wire cuts into my ears and they can become raw and sore. I ordered tube twists to cover the receiver wire.

My ears are no longer sore in the morning.

I still fall asleep time to time with my regular aids.

My aids have acrylic custom ear molds that are full shells, there isn’t any way I will wear them when trying to sleep, and no I cannot get soft shell ear molds because it isn’t possible with my 105db receivers.
I am hoping for an in the canal aids if if there is a possibility even if I can’t get all of the extra power just so long as I can understand my wife at night.

At night I can hear the TV and tinnitus program because it’s so quiet.

My ear molds are very hard. And they will rub my ears raw if I try to sleep with them on. I am a person that sleeps on my side. If I slept on my back no one could stand to be in the house much less in the bedroom. I would even wake myself up.

Mine hard like rocks. I can’t get silicone ear molds for my receivers needs. I am actually thinking about maybe trying the latest Phonak aids. But I trust my audiologist completely to stir me correctly. He has hinted at a different brand hearing aids back in August. I use to wearing aids and really enjoyed them. Maybe I can go to that again. I realize that Phonak has the best options at this time.

I don’t know I am hoping my audiologist has a plan by the time I have my appointment. I have emailed him with my question about even if there is an option. His return was that he will have the appointment setup this next week. I replied that I already have an appointment the 3rd of November.

Just try to sleep in them as best you can.

Try to adjust to sleeping on your back.

I know it will be hard.

I wear Oticon INTENT1 with the 105db receiver, Oticon gives no option for any ear molds material but acrylic. Honestly for sleeping I am hoping for an option as I sleep on my side and turn over a number of times in my sleep. I don’t care if they have my full power capacity ad long as it is enough to let me understand my wife.

Just my $.02, but you might want to get checked for sleep apnea if you snore. I use a CPAP machine and my wife sleeps much better as a result. I’m sure I do too.

I snore badly if I sleep on my back but I’ve had two sleep studies and no apnea. I am also one who tends to sleep on my side. Snoring and apnea aren’t always hand in hand.
