Color of hearing aids

Vintage advertising photos for the analog aids always showed the big, clunky ones in a color that reminds me of cheap plastic mannequins. Didn’t match human skin at all.
If it’s going to be seen, pick a color you enjoy!

My aids stand out because of the color of my skeleton molds—purple and white swirled with glitter. I also wear twists over my wires to keep the wires from digging into the top of my ears.

Ooooooooh! Nice!! My wife loves purple, and so do I (which is fortunate, because one pretty much requires the other).

I’m all about the purple. My current twists are purple, too, though I often change those up to match my mood. My husband says they suit my personality! I’ve noticed, though, that because my hearing aids are so obvious, strangers will occasionally notice them and immediately turn away, as if I’m not worthy of engaging because of my hearing loss.

Those silver hearing aids jump out at me every time I see somebody wearing them. I don’t think that grey hair disguises them very well.

I get black hearing aids. I wear glasses and pick frames that are dark. The hearing aids sit next to the bows on the frames and according to my wife they blend in reasonably well.

In the end, when you are a guy in my age group you don’t fret a lot about things like this. It is just so great, living in today’s high tech world and having a solution that keeps me in normal conversation and able to hear the birds sing. I cringe when I imagine what it must have been like for the likes of Edison or Beethoven and millions of others as they gradually lost their hearing.

If you look on Amazon and perhaps Esty you can find hearing aid “skins”. That might be your best solution. There is also a lot jewelry appearing for use with hearing aids.

I suspect it’s more likely that they don’t want to be caught staring. It may also be that they think it would be rude to speak to you about your hearing aids because they don’t know you. They might fear that they’d offend you.

tbh, i mostly never noticed them until i got them, now i see them everywhere.
i think they are quite obvious most of the time, but people just dont pay attention to them.

I’m not saying they should talk about my aids. Some people are afraid to talk to me at all. We were just on a 15-night cruise, and there were a few times when someone would approach and ask if they could share a table at the bar with us, but then they’d stare at my aids for a second and say, “never mind” or just turn around and walk away. Not everyone, of course—we wound up making several new friends we plan to stay in touch with—but it happened multiple times.

I have some of the cuffs from DeafMetal! They’re great for dressing up my aids. On a practical note, they also keep your aids from getting lost when you’re hiking in the wind and rain.

Maybe those folks can’t tell the difference between hearing aids and earbuds! They might not have been the most enjoyable company, if that’s the case.

I generally like people to be able to see mine so a colour that people can see usually works best. Currently wearing silver because I liked them. My hair is brown.

I have ear gear in loads of different colours too.

I hate skin-colored hearing aids. I wear 2 pairs of hearing aids, one is dark gray and the other is light gray.

To be honest, I stopped looking at hearing aids as something to hide, I cut my hair short and I look at hearing aids as a fashion accessory :slight_smile:
I hope the next hearing aids will be bronze or champagne. And I still hate skin color :slight_smile:
As for bright colors, that won’t happen. I look for hearing aids to look elegant above all.

There are all kinds of skins available with all sorts of colors and patterns if you want funky colors for your hearing aids.

Me, I’ll stick with basic black, which matches my hair, and my glasses, as it happens.

Thanks to this thread, I went to Etsy and spent far too much time down the rabbit hole of skins and twists. Do the twists take a lot of time to put on? Are the ultra thin ones best for wires? I also notice the skins are to the pattern of behind the ear aids, not RIC, do they work anyway?

I’m not a fan of the Reddit hearing aids threads (too many useless comments) but I’ve seen some people there posting awesome colorings and decorations there with pictures.
