Color of hearing aids

I feel like I want to match my hearing aids to the color of my head/ear skin tone. I shave my head so I don’t have hair to match. Why are the silver hearing aids so popular? I see that the old school hearing aids came in the universal skin color and they looked really cheap. Does Costco even sell different color hearing aids?

Where are all of the skin tone hearing aids?

Try it! Just make sure it is big enough for the domes too.

I think it would work. A small hole in your ear very near to the earhole.
This idea is just crazy enough to work!

The silver color is probably because a high percentage of people who wear aids have gray hair. My hair is still mostly brown, and I always choose brown hearing aids, although I admit this last time I was kind of tired of that, and if the colors available for some models were available in mine, I’d have gone for purple or turquoise or something like that. Bright colors are also probably low demand, but my latest car is sky blue because I’m sick of black, white, and gray cars.

Anyway, my guess is there’s little demand for skin color. I don’t know if anyone else feels this way, but the fake skin color of plastic actually catches my attention. It never really matches.

The significant hole size in a very cartilaginous area makes me suspect it would be painful, difficult to heal, easily inflamed, and draw a great deal of attention. This would likely counteract the desire by @2ball to have somewhat inconspicuous hearing aids.

I’m done with the flesh coloured hearing aids and prefer greys/blacks/silvers lately. I hate the colour of the tube too, turns sickly yellow after a while.

I’d like to paint my ears mid grey actually to blend my ears in with my aid :joy:

Punching a hole through my ears and pulling the receiver and dome through it? Pulling my aids after having some Johnny Walkers on Fridays or panicking after showering with them? No thanks :slight_smile:

Using molds, I suppose a person would have to disconnect the receiver wire from the body of the aid, put the connector through the hole, then reconnect. I agree with you. No thanks!

I chose Caribbean Pirate (teal) with my Phonak and Advanced Bionics cochlear implant! Let those colors fly. May as well own it and enjoy my fave color every day. I agree on the “flesh tone” colors not being appealing. Silver would be cooler if thats the only other choice.

I feel it’s more important to hear than to worry about the color. I rather people know I’m deaf than have people think I’m ignorance, they would normally see my hearing aids they would know I deaf. I have never liked the skin color aids, they look cheap. Just my thoughts!

Etsy has a whole section of hearing aid accessories.

You can literally make your aids look like jewelry.

They have stickers of multiple colors and designs.

My () tells me a lot of the younger guys are going with bright whites so folks think they have the latest and greatest Apple product.

The wire is shaped to curve around the top of your ear. It’s not going to fit correctly through hole.

Trust me, flesh coloured hearing aids look just as obvious to others, and remind me of the old analogue aids, and the times when having something in you ear was a stigma. I have hearing aids in:

Sand Beige, Graphite, Champagne, Blue Ocean, Lava Red and Caribbean Pirate (Turquoise).

The nearest to skin tone is Sand Beige. I rarely wear those. Nobody notices any of them.

I think any of these worries will disappear as once you get used to wearing them.
