First ever Hearing Aid ordered

In Australia.

I went and had a consult with an Audika Audiologist. They recommended from mid level and up. I went with the enhance + (mid level) which is an Oticon Real hearing aid..The price for the single was about 3/4 of pair which was $ 3400. I get about $1200 back on private health so there will be a significant gap.

I am getting another audiologists consult from Freedom hearing. It will be interesting to see what they recommend and their prices..

I live regionally. Due to my family & work, getting to our capital city is difficult as it is 5-6hrs drive away.,Seeing someone truly independent isn’t really an option.

$3400 for a pair of Oticon More mid level? US$?
The Oticon more is two generations behind (released 2021) - that sounds expensive. Yes, I think you are doing the right thing by seeking a second opinion.

There are Audika subsidiaries here in Switzerland and France. They spend a lot on (aggressive) advertising and are very expensive compared to others.

I’m curious if there is a Costco in the same city and if they could be a viable (and much less expensive) option.

I advise you to try all three, the More, Real and Intent. I did, and the Intent is a totally different hearing aide. You can probably get it from an online dealer for cheaper. The Intent has 3 models, so its worth it to get the 1. Most dealers have interest free financing as well. I mostly love my Intent 1’s, did not like the others.

I still think that’s high for an Oticon Real 2 (you said mid-level).
I hope you can get better quotes in other places.
I am not in Australia, so I have no clue about the market there.

Question for the gurus: Does the OP need two ? Why? (I’m not questioning the decision, I just would like to understand the rationale)

A lot of features work together, but the OP could easily get by with a single .

Costco is still the better option.

Just from what I’ve seen around here, hearing aids seem significantly more expensive in Australia. But with the converstion rate maybe it’s not as bad as I think. Looks like $5000 USD is $7600 AUD.

I made my comment on the assumption that the price was in USD$ (I did ask in my response). If it is AUD$, then that is about $1440 out of pocket, that’s reasonable.
