Phonak Audeo Bluetooth streaming issue

Hi

I have been using Phonak Audeo hearing aids. Overall I am quite happy with the amplifying of my required sound frequencies, however I have had ongoing Bluetooth streaming issues when streaming music or using the phone (iPhone).

The issue is that within a few minutes the RH aid’s volume drops. An even volume distribution is restored by pausing the streaming for approx 10 seconds. My Phonak technician has been unable to pinpoint the cause. A new iPhone patch did fix it for a few months, but the issue has returned. I have been told that nobody else seems to have the problem, hence my post here today. I believe it is linked to Phonak not updating their Bluetooth streaming software to ensure it is compatible with the iPhone one. I have no streaming issues with my Bose head phones.

Very odd, my Audéos don’t have this problem, but I stream mostly with my Android phone and TV streamer, rarely from my iPad.
You probably need to establish what device is causing the problem- streaming for a while with your from an Android device, and testing your Apple thing with something else, like Bluetooth headphones.

I also have no trouble with BT. I still have volume trouble with Roger streaming via media cable while in a moving vehicle (only when moving!) unless I orient the mic just-so.

I too have this problem. Have the same aids as yours. To me this is nothing that your audiogist can solve. Phonak, iphone, and Bluetooth have an issue. I complained earlier this year and they finally updated the Phonak app. Things appeared better, but it is still problamatic when connecting. I also have the problem with phone calls. For connection on phone calls - mine is set for the left ear, which I can usually hear just fine, but the volume in the RH volume drops (sometimes it is completely gone). It will come and go when I am on a phone call - very annoying. On rare occasion I will get a quality call where the volume is correct on both. It is very frustrating, that there is no one to address the problem to (such as customer service at Phonak). The technician is great for adjusting the aids to your hearing requirements, but not for addressing problems with the app, iphone, or BT problems. Problems such as this are not sent to proper personel for resolution in my estimation. (I’ll get off my soap box now).

Very useful info. I did get the same issue during phone calls and yes it is highly annoying. My instant fix was to switch to speaker and back to the which evened out the sound distribution. It got so bad during longer phone calls that I stopped using the Bluetooth streaming, maybe less of a health risk as well. The phone calls streaming issue ended up being somehow fixed by having updated my iPhone’s firmware to the latest version. The music streaming issue was also sorted with the same firmware patch but creeped back in a few months later. As already mentioned in my original post, no streaming issues re sound distribution with my Bose head phones, so it is a Phonak Apple issue.

At this point, I have given up on the Phonak app. The ’s are OK, but the streaming is a joke. The app doesn’t function properly, the BT connection is a pain, and the streaming for phone calls is not very good. I have taken the MyPhonak app off the iphone and only use the streaming for phone calls. Most of the time when I receive a phone call, I disconnect the HA and go to the phone or the speaker to hear the caller. Very disappointing and amazing that a company is not more responsive to its customers!

Totally agree, it is the time wasting which gets to me. The product should be doing what it was meant to do at time of purchase. I suspect there is a link to Apple updating their firmware for the iPhone and Phonak not keeping up with them, meaning the compatibility is compromised.

Just a quick update. My supplier (fully owned by Phonak) has provided a loan unit Audeo 90 and the uneven streaming issue is fixed.

They will swap me over to the Audeo 90 next week.

Key differences: slightly smaller aid, updated Bluetooth technology which only uses the left and right connection, not the third connection the basic Audeo required.

The charger is no longer an induction one and does not come with an integrated battery plus the new aids aren’t waterproof (all not any big deal). Whilst the technician wasn’t 100% sure, it seems the favoring of the left aid after a few minutes of streaming could be linked to the unusual 3 Bluetooth connections the olds aids required.
