Custom Mould Problem

I have GN Resound aids with custom moulds. The custom mould on my left aid is fairly new and after wearing it for a time the sound reduces noticeably. When I just lightly touch the mould the sound returns to normal level.

I don’t think it’s a problem with the hearing aid as I have a spare mould and there is no problem with this. Anyone any idea what could be causing this?

It could be that the mold is slipping out? Maybe it’s too small? I’ve had this issue as well, sound would dampen or just completely go out until I pressed on the mold. I found out from my audiologist it was due to the tubing getting clogged and needing replacement. Though that depends on what tubing your has. I have a with custom molds and very thick tubing so sweat and moisture from everyday life can clog it up easily, and it would only resolve completely until I replaced it or cleaned it out with dental floss of all things (also recommended by my audiologist).

Thank you, but actually it’s pretty good fit. Also, this mould is connected with a fine wire. There is no tube. Custom moulds on Resound GN are actually receivers (like small speakers) as opposed to tubed moulds.

I noticed your missing a canal lock, this will keep it from even the slightest movement. Did you get new programming on that new mould or was it simply fitted?

If it is shortly after purchasing faulty mould you can file a complaint. With Phonak cShell I had 3 months to return it with complaint.

Particularly if you are not getting the problem with an older receiver mold, then it is an issue with the receiver mold itself. It is not uncommon for certain wiring to get funny inside the casing. Sometimes if you shake the receiver mold you can feel loose parts. It would need to be sent to the manufacturer to address, but receiver molds are typically covered under warranty.

Just about any mould can be made with one, but yes the clinic needs to specify this on the order form at the time.
