Otoscope for home use

Hello everyone! I once wrote a post about swimming workouts that temporarily affected my hearing. I received many helpful responses. Recently, I encountered a problem with a sulfur plug for the first time. My doctor recommended purchasing an otoscope for home use. This device allows me to monitor the presence of a sulfur plug. I found this otoscope to be useful. Do you use a similar device? Here is a photo of my home diagnosis😊

Yes, I have a similar device, a cheap 7 USD chinese toy that sends an image by WiFi to my Android. Use it to see if my eardrums are clean. I don’t use the tools.

I use the small plastic spoons that attach to the otoscope. I don’t know why you say they are an illusion, they do a good job of cleaning out the wax that collects where my domes push them. I certainly would never try to use those long metal spoons.

I’ve got a Microsuction appointment on Tuesday. These images have made me decide, I shall continue letting professionals do it. I don’t really want to see inside my own head :slight_smile:

I have one of those otoscopes with tools, also a little machine sprays a variable jet of water to flush out the ear. I quite often get a build up of wax on or close to the eardum, usually every 6 to 12 months or so. I can get one free micro suction annually, which I take advantage of.

I remove the wax around the outside of my ear canal once a month. I also rinse the canals out with rubbing alcohol daily. This way the wax never gets a chance to migrate to the eardrum.

I would be careful with organic solvents and scraping tools- many say that earwax production is stimulated by over-cleaning and irritation (yes, I know can be such an irritant). I stick with warm water showers. But everyone’s ears are different.

Tilt head to left, drip a couple of drops of alcohol into right ear with an eye dropper, tilt head to right, rub around outside of canal with a tissue, repeat on other side.

Yes, my ears used to become very clogged with wax. I had no luck trying to clear them myself with ear drops and water lavages. I had to get my ears cleaned out at a doctor’s office once a year, which would entail 15 minutes of torture with high pressure water streams. I’m doing much better with my present system.

I usually have to get the ear wax removed a couple times a year. I’ve been told it can be a familial thing. One year I had not had it done before heading off to a snorkeling vacation and got water trapped - very painful. Went to a Minit Clinic and the doc there used DULCOLAX from a pierced capsule to first soften things up. Saw it at a conference he said. It worked so well I’ve used it ever since :+1:

It’s the capsule - liquid filled. Just poke a hole with a safety pin or whatever and squeeze it into the ear canal. 10 or 15 minutes later and do your usual lavage. I most often go to the docs office for the flush, but have done it myself with an Elephant’s Ear. I just don’t get the same good angle they accomplish in the office.
