My audiologist does . But as for as I know the VA doesn’t do 3d scans or as you are thinking about it. My audiologist is a professor of audiology at the State Medical School and I have had 3d scans and speech mapping in his classroom. My audiologist is trying to get both in to the VA clinics in my state. The clinics here are Community VA clinics and function with a cooperation of the state university medical school. I have never had as good a care as I do here. I used standard VA in Texas and it was good but not as great as here.

Thanks for confirming the suspected the bad news. The Boston system is excellent as they get docs from the great medical schools and hospitals here moonlighting to pay off their med bills and the audiologist for my visit 5 years ago was top notch and I am hoping she is still there. If the VA can’t do it, I may be able to get these tests done in the Mass General - Brighams system which is also excellent.

In-situ 3D scans don’t score better for accuracy than well-taken impressions: especially for deeper mould requirements. I wouldn’t judge a practice on this basis.
Anywhere doing fittings without some sort of independent verification tool (not reliant on manufacturer software) is chancing their arm to some extent with hearing aid performance.

That’s not really bad news, because like Stephen said well taken impressions score very well.
The one hint I offer is keep your mouth open while the gunk is setting. This expands the ear canal, and insures a good seal. Some people even use a dental bite block.

I was told to move my jaws like I was chewing or talking. This helps to prevent the too tight fit that can hurt. But I have always had acrylic custom ear molds or aids. I have never had silicone ear molds. The few months I had domes I had issues with rashes in my ear canals.

That’s counter to best practices, as moving your jaw alters the shape of the ear canal, so you may not get a good fit.
I wear acrylics too.
