I’m here in Munich Germany and most shops say we don’t have an ACT test. the LMU clinic also said they don’t have one but others might and gave me referrals.
Any User experience? Is ACT value important, did you get good results? just try random numbers?
How important do you guys think this is?
I know there are more intelligence settings, but with oticon you never know if the ACT value changes parameters in the backround you can’t change yourself, and ultimately makes ACT useful to use and get the number right.
I did do an ACT test in Portugal, it’s a simple test that measures how well you well you hear an ambulance siren passing by you on a background noise, and gives you a classification depending on how well you do. I think this number impacts more sound intelligence only, but not sure…
yes it might, but it also might change the algorithm in noise. they don’t say, but some people mentioned understanding in difficult situations was better.
I’ll try to get one too for the correct number. thanks.
I have only just discovered ACT and the input area in the Oticon Genie 2 fitting.
As I understand it, ACT is necessary as two different people even with identical , will have different levels in their ability to hear speech in noise. Therefore they will need different fitting solutions for the same hearing situation.
ACT puts an objective measurement of the signal to noise ratio needed to hear a siren over different levels of background noise.
When ACT testing is complete, the result is expressed as a single number which is the measure of the signal/noise ratio that you require to hear the signal level above the background noise level. It is expressed as x nCL where x is a number between -4 to +16 dB.
This value is entered in the Genie 2, Personalization page ACT field and saved (“The fitting software personalizes help-in-noise based on results.”).
This video describes the ACT test:
This is the Interacoustics Guide which explains the concept of using ACT:
I have just received a pair (set?) Off Intent 1s and am practically having to “drag” my audiologist into doing an ACT test when I go back in a couple of weeks. Only then will she do a . I’m guessing that right now I only have first for settings and, frankly, the hearing aids are way less than spectacular. My previous fittings with hearing aids at Costco over the past several years have been more thorough. I’m looking forward to hearing what improvement REM and ACT testing make.
