PhonakTarget, feedback treshold overtuning, how to use

Doing some adjustments on my Phonak P90. I could need some advise e.g. how to use the overtuning feature. I have enclosed my diagram of present setting.

Any comment on the diagram, do the settings look ok? I can hear pretty well in calm situations but wonder if I have reached optimal setting.From the diagram I interpret that I am pretty close to feedback treshold in the higher frequencies I have no problem with feedback..Would I have an advantage if I use overtuning? How much should I increase amplification?

Hi Mike,

I enable overtuning over estimated feedback levels on all my aids. Target does seem to take a big chunk out of my gains, when it doesn’t need to. To me, it makes a huge difference. Your pdf doesn’t look like you’ve enabled it. Here’s mine with 12dB overtune enabled.

In programme options, I also reduce WhistleBlock as low as possible. What I mean by this: If my hearing aids, or ears are cupped to produce feedback, I set it so I still get a bit of feedback, but that feedback disappears when I remove my hand.

Hi Peter, thank´s for your reply. It was very helpful.
I have now enabled overtuning on my right ear. On left side I can only increase what is above 6 kHz although I would need it at 4kHz.
I can se in my table that right side gain has increased above 4 kHz. Also CR has increased !?.
As for Wihistleblock, in my program it is On by default when using overtuning.

Have you observed if gain will increase more if you apply overtuning more than needed (above calculated gain)? In that case gain would be higher than calculated?

While I have your attention: From my diagram I can see that right side actual gain is lower than target gain in 0.5 to 2 kHz. Why is that so? I have used automatic fine tuning female voice, maybe that is the reason actual gain is lower than target gain?

Its a useful tool. Use prefrably while listening to speach or whatever you want to adjust. Dont do too many changes at one time. You can always undo changes. Make sure you have the Phonak sound files installed.
