Phonak Sphere program on hearing radio in car
7 replies390 viewsLast reply
I just got my Phonak Spheres. So far, I’m enjoying them. But I’m in the car now driving home after Thanksgiving. I would like to hear the radio news better. How can a set up a new program on MyPhonak app for this situation? I just played with it, reducing bass. But is there a standard setting for this? Or ideas on how to get this better?
I’ll see my Audi in December, but wondering what I can do.

AutoSense will switch to “speech in car “ automatically. You can ask the audiologist to add a “Speech in Car” program so that you can select it manually.

Don’t worry. I’m a passenger in the car!
Have you checked what program AutoSense is using? In my experience (with music in the car) the program is often not what I would have assumed.
For listening to the news, it should be using Speech in Car, and that program should be giving you good results since the news is precisely that. (On the other hand, what might be optimal for listening to the news might not be best for listening to music - everything is a trade-off.)
If you don’t already know the magic trick to determining what automatic program is in operation at any given time, here it is: From the MyPhonak home screen, tap on “Automatic”, then on “Adjust” (at the lower right of the screen). Now at the top of the screen you’ll see “Adjust XXXX”, where XXXX is the current active program. (And yes, I know this procedure is super-awkward, inconvenient, and annoying. But sometimes magic is like that.)
Once you know what program is in effect, you can figure out how you might want it to change, and ask your provider to adjust it next time. Or you can take the plunge, become an official nerd, and give up all your other hobbies.
P.S. In Florida, I think you’re allowed to do all this stuff while you’re driving. ![]()

I did check the program as you described. . It was not in Sphere and that’s when I discovered I do not have a speech in car program! I don’t know how I missed that. I just got these aids a week ago. I’ll ask for it when I see the Audi in December. She is also going to do the real ear measurement at that appointment. So I was just trying some using the app. It did help to reduce the bass. Then I gave up and turned on the Sphere. It helped somewhat. Only problem, forgot to turn it off when we arrived home and about 10 pm the left hearing aid ran out of battery. It surprised me that it was the left aid.
