I originally have been using Oticon hearing Aids. I enjoyed them and they served me well. My most recent set, Oticon More, worked as well as previous models except when using the audio adapter for the TV. The sound was choppy and sporadic. I went back to the with my issues and the decision wass to switch to Starkey Edge. The description I was given was that there were “more aggressive” although I had no idea what that meant at the time. I immediately noticed they seemed far more sensitive. I remember joking with someone that I could now hear an ant walking across the floor but still had problems with speech from across the room. Over time I got more frustrated with them Where my Oticon units (over about 10 years) were essentially trouble free and pleasant to have and use, th Starkey units have been nothing but a complete annoyance. Unfortunately I waited too long to complain to the VA and went beyond the 90 day window of return so I’m stuck with them until the 2 year mark when they will replace them without issue. In the meantime the Starkey units are giving me all sorts of feedback in places that make no sense. I did go back to the VA last week and complained and they did an adjustment and that problem is minimized although I still sense it on occasion. The TV interface seems almost as bad as not using it. I can never find the “right “ setting. The Oticon units always seemed right and never gave me problems.
I know there are probably more adjustments that can be and probably would be made by me but I’ve fiddled many times and feel more frustrated than anything. It seemed to me that the Optician ’s were a simple user friendly product but the Starkey units require adjustments on my part and I have yet to find the sweet spots for anything.
