I’m a professional software developer that uses Linux computers all day long. I rarely even turn my Android phone on. I need something that can last for hours of Zoom meetings (Bluetooth) with other developers scattered all over the world.
My hearing situation won’t allow for an device. Being a tech geek my inclination is to go for the max tech in the Phonak line but that same tech may exhaust the battery I need for Bluetooth meetings.
I was in denial a long time but now I need a hearing aid. I’m asking for end user advice.
The Signia Pure Charge & Go I have work flawlessly with Apple’s iPhone & iPad. They work with many Mac computers. This link takes you to a list of compatible hearing aids. That page is a link that will show you which laptop and desktop are compatible. My MacBook Air M4 works fine with the Signia. It’s one-way with computers: The computer streams to the devices.
These Made for iPhone () hearing aids are compatible with iPhone and iPad. Those marked with an asterisk (*) are also compatible with Mac.
The Signia Pure Charge & Go are hit-or-miss with Android. One needs Android 10 or higher and the device manufacturer has to implement the software. Motorola said my phone is hardware compatible & any hearing aid with BTLE will work if they do a software update. They said they won’t because they want people to buy new phones. I’ve heard others mention that Google Pixel phones can be problematic with hearing aids.
My hearing situation won’t allow for an OTC device.
you did not post your , so depending on your hearing loss you may could use battery operated type , like Phonak Naida Lumity SP (13 battery) or Phonak Naida Lumity UP (675 battery). The type Phonak Audeo L90 is also available as a 312 battery operated version.
Neither of them supporting BLEA but they connect via classic bluetooth to every bluetooth device.
The battery operated hearing aids last for days and therefore support hours of Zoom meetings (Bluetooth).
Phonak (and other Sonova brands like Unitron and Hansaton) supporting classic bluetooth (two way) and therefore no additional streamer is needed.
For other hearing aid brands the option is either or Bluetooth , depending on the hearing aid device (maker and model).
For ASHA connection to a Linux PC/Laptop you are able to get/ a Pico-ASHA adapter
Hi all
It’s been a while, but after a lot of on and off work on this, I’ve finally got it to a point where I can create a beta release. This release includes numerous improvements such as:
A GUI application (precompiled for Windows) to monitor and control Pico ASHA - No more terminal required!
Lot’s of under the hood changes and improvements
A website with some documentation that is hopefully a bit friendlier and not too technical.
Please feel free to try it. Be warned though, it’s still a b…
For BLEA supported hearing aids you can get FlooGoo BLEA adapter or Avantree BLEA adapter
I would take a look at the FlooGoo dongle and select a compatible hearing aid that has . We know that Costco sells the Jabra 30 and Philips 9050 that should work out at a low cost.
You won’t need the hearing-in-noise setting while on Zoom calls, so battery life should be OK.
The numbers are explained in the latest user manual. We list them separately to make it clearer for users how the total latency is determined by different modes, and which portions are contributed by each end.
In the manual’s example, the codec shown is a Qualcomm proprietary format called “aptX Adaptive,” which is simply another codec used in place of the standard LC3. For hearing aid users, the display will always show something like “LC3 @ 24 kHz xx+yy+zz ms.” The fundamentals of latency cal…
Unless you’re able to outfit your Linux computer with a Bluetooth adapter for , I’d go with Phonak’s Classic Bluetooth. I think the Infinio Sphere Ultra would last a full day using Bluetooth as long as not using Sphere mode very much. If you can and choose to get a LE Audio adapter, then pretty much any aid except Phonak should work. My impression is that Resound has one of the better implications of LE Audio.

Due to no familiarity with the hardware or software, your mention of a setting brought to mind another question.
If I’m watching a YouTube video, for example, is the Bluetooth stream processed by the ecosystem or is it a pass through? I need it to be processed because I have a hard time understanding some foreign speakers accents when they speak English. I ask my wife to listen to them and she hears words I can’t distinguish.
From all the videos I’ve watched to get this far, it is my understanding that the Phonak “Classic Bluetooth only” current situation will be upgraded to include LE in the future.
One of my issues in general is that I live on an island with no audiologists and getting a software/feature upgrade would mean an airline ticket and a one or two day expenditure depending on flight availability. That gets expensive not to mention annoying.
What are my chances of getting fit for a non device by an competent practitioner in a single visit? Am I looking at X number of trips to get the bugs ironed out or can tuning be done remotely?
FlooGoo claims it is compatible with Linux. @Ranson should be able to confirm.
If I were in the OP’s shoes, I would opt for Phonaks to avoid any compatibility issues. They will work now without an adapter and they will get in the future. (Actually not true , I’m a tech nerd , I would play with the Floogoo)
I’d say odds are low of being completely satisfied in one fitting, but it sounds like you have good technical skills. Self programming is not that challenging. See the section of the forum. Basically you’ll need a Noahlink Wireless and software. The DIY section will explain how to get it. With those you could do your own updates.
Yes, Linux has been supported from day one since the FMA120 was released in 2023. Both the FMA120 and FMA121 work as standard USB audio devices. In fact, many Linux users—including some manufacturers—are integrating the FMA120/FMA121 with Raspberry Pi to build commercial products.
If users want to run the FlooCast app on Linux, Python is required, and the source code is available on GitHub. That said, the app is not required for normal operation if the device has already been set up on another PC. Once configured, the audio functions work automatically without the app.
That’s a fantastic piece of information. Thank You very much.
The island I live on is part of Honduran territory. The locals speak both English and Spanish since the ‘Bay Islands’ were once British territory and old British families own most of the island. There are two audiologists on mainland Honduras that Phonak has as part of their support structure.
After 20 years of being here, I completely understand that when you want a plumber, he will show up with a machete and ask you for any tools he might need and has no knowledge of plumbing. An ‘electrician’ told me I could save a bundle of money by eliminating the ground wire when I set up my first business. I’m an EE so I know what that would mean. Long story short, experience has shown not to trust Honduran ‘expertise’.
Miami is where I expected to go to get the initial fitting, etc. Knowing that once the physical is set up, the tweaking can be done by myself is valuable information.
Since the code is written in Python, it is actually much easier than compiling the kernel. However, we’ve learned from users that installing wxPython (the UI package) can be more complex on some Linux distributions, as they may use different package management methods than those described in our instructions.

According to Phonak the Bluetooth (BLEA) update will come only to the currently newest Infinio generation. Currently it is Phonak Audio Infinio I-R and Sphere Infinio. The Infini platform is BLEA ready.
All previous platforms stay on classic Bluetooth because they lack from Bluetooth version 5.3 and have only bluetooth version 4
