Information regarding Resound Vivia settings and app

My friend just got Resound Vivia aids and has asked me a few questions that I can’t answer because I have Oticon Intent aids. She wants to know whether she can answer her phone (or hang up) by tapping her ear like I can. If she can, is that something that she can select through her app or does her audiologist have to program it in? Secondly, her aids are set so that incoming calls default to her aids. If she wants calls to default to her phone speakers would she be able to do that herself through the app or does her audiologist have to do it? Finally , does anyone know of a Resound user group that she could join? Thanks for your help!

I’ll start off and no doubt other Vivia users will join in.

She can answer calls by tapping the aid if it’s been set up to do that by the audiologist. She can check in the Resound Smart 3D app, to see whether it has been enabled. I don’t think disconnecting the call can be done the same way, but I don’t use this myself so I could be wrong.

Whether incoming calls are routed to her Vivias or to the phone speakers is a phone function, not a hearing aid function. So she needs to set her phone to route calls how she wants.

I don’t know of any Resound user group. But there are lots of Resound (or Jabra, which is the same) hearing aids here and she should just join this forum herself and ask the questions as they occur to her.

Also if she is asking questions, it’s a good idea to say which Vivias she has and which phone, in particular whether Apple or Android.

on my iPhone when I’m speaking via the hearing aids, there is a page associated with the incoming call in which you can see and select the audio source. If her software is like mine, she need only tap on the “iPhone” line for the call’s audio to come from the phone, one choice for speaker phone and the other for holding it to your ear. I use Oticon, but switching the audio source is, I am pretty sure, a function of the Apple or other manufacturers’ software.

If she has Samsung S23-S25 or Pixel 8, 9, or 10 or maybe the 8a or 9a, she should be able to tap to talk. Tap to talk is supposed to require , and the Pix 8a and 9a are not Auracast-capable, but ReSound listed them as tap-to-talk-capable. ReSound also says the Pixel 7 will Tap to talk, but a number of reports says the 7 won’t.

If she’s got an Apple (7 or newer, IIRC), she can tap to talk.

So it’s an experimental question. :slight_smile:

All hearing aids which are (Made For iPhone) can, when they are used with iPhones, be controlled by the iOS native app of the iPhone, itself. This means that no app is needed.

This is done through the built-in Control Center feature, which is readily accessed by triple tapping the home button on the iPhone. Certain particular iPhone models and hardware features may provide different methods for access. Jabra hearing aids, being manufactured by GN ReSound, are all MFi enabled and licensed, AFAIK.

Full disclosure: I am unfamiliar with how, if at all, any non-iPhones would behave in their wireless communication with MFi hearing devices. There surely must be differences …

Note, you don’t need for tap to talk. Auracast is a broadcast and as such you wouldn’t want to broadcast your conversations though out the neighborhood.

You just need with Android phones if you wish to receive the call through your hearing aids and to talk using them with tap control.

If you are happy with just listening to your calls through your hearing aids and talking using the microphone in the phone, then all you need is a phone to can use . Note you will have to answer the call using your phone.

It’s not that simple. The codec seems to be required for tap-to-talk with Android, and I believe there are LEA phones without the LC3 codec. One really has to consult the manufacturer’s compatibility list for guidance, and sometimes the manufacturer has to be consulted directly.

Also, I can use my Jabra EP 10s’ mics - only - for phone calls, though call quality isn’t great. I can also end calls by tapping a button on my .
