Is costco capable of treating my loss?

Have had hearing loss my entire life (36 ) but got hearing aids for first time about 10 years ago. On my 2nd pair now currently looking at 3rd pair.

Quoted for near top of line oticon intent 1 about 6.1k (which includes future fittings, adjustments, domes, filters, repairs etc. Basically its the bundled price) On a trial now of them and its certainly an upgrade over the oticons I got in 2020. Haven’t had a bad experience at all but its obviously alot of money.

My hearing loss is normal-severe sensorineurap sloping in right ear but mild -profoujnd mixed spoping hearing loss in left. Obviously I’ve heard about the price being around 1600. Is costco capable of treating this? My costco location does not have an audiologist. Anyone have experience with them ?

Hard to tell. At minimum Costco is likely to want a statement from that it’s ok to fit hearing aids because of your very asymetrical loss. Have any idea what your word recognition scores are? That left ear might be a cochlear implant candidate. I’d say largely depends on how much you value your time. If time is available there’s little downside to trying out Costco. If time is tight you might be better off sticking with known audiologist.

Given your , I would suggest an audiologist. They have a wider selection of aids than Costco such as the higher power Phonaks or Oticons. For the best price you might check the ZipHearing web site. They sell at a discount through a network of audiologists. I have used them in the past and was very satisfied.

Cochlear implant left. Not much hearing aid benefit on right, but sure try Costco.

I’d suggest a cochlear implant eval for the left ear.

See my . Your left ear is definitely for evaluation. I would proceed with this as soon as possible because it will tell you if you have to spend over $3000 for a hearing aid for your left ear—that may be an unnecessary cost.

Regarding the right ear, I suggest not rushing too early for Oticon Intent because although it’s decent, but also almost two-year-old technology.

It is quite possible that Oticon will release a new platform soon (February-March? I’m crystal-balling).

In the meantime, try another brands like Phonak Audeo Infinio Sphere, Starkey Omega, Resound Vivia, etc.

Phonak will probably release a new platform in August 2026.

Your right ear fitting will be require much patience from you, because you have near-normal or normal hearing until 2000 Hz, which means risk of occlusion effect. However, you probably require more closer acousting coupling (i.e. power domes, earmold with small vents) to provide proper high frequency amplification without acoustic feedback.

The solution is probably very deep placed power domes (past second bend of ear canal) or earmold from very deep silicone impression (deep at least 5mm past second bend of ear canal). That could minimize occlusion effect, because power domes/earmold will lay on bony part of ear canal.

Yes Costco hearing aids are fantastic. Highly recommend Hearlink 9050.

the audiologists or dispensers at Costco must perform real ear measurement as well. But in terms of having to stop by for an immediate fix to an issue, it isn’t so great. They are always super busy.

So think about the pros and cons

Thanks for sharing your word understanding for each ear.

If you are in a position mentally and financially to get a in that left ear it would be a great set up for hearing. As mentioned a CI evaluation would be very helpful to understand more about your hearing and CI. The forum has a few CI members who can answer most questions you might have. I am bilateral CI, it was life changing for me.
