I always thought the idea that hearing aids helped with tinnitus was incorrect, at least in my personal experience. I didn’t doubt that some people got relief from tinnitus with aids. Tinnitus takes many forms, and not everyone has the same experience with it. But in my case, the four pairs of ReSound aids I’d gotten over the years with full-service audiologists, the last of which used the ReSound tinnitus app, made no difference to my tinnitus, in or out of my ears, with or without the tinnitus app.
Until I got Jabra Pro 30s from Costco (which does not support tinnitus reduction with an app or aid settings). These are by far the best aids I’ve had for speech clarity. Yes, as others have complained, they’re a little loud in the default All Around mode, but I’ll take it, because the speech clarity is so much better for me. But I didn’t even notice until I’d had them about a month: my tinnitus which previously was loud enough to interfere with my speech comprehension is all but gone when the aids are in. (Tinnitus does return at night when the aids are out, but it doesn’t keep me awake or bother me, as I’m used to it.)
So yes, now in my experience, too, the right aids, set the right way, can greatly reduce tinnitus. Color me amazed.
