Phonak Roger table mic. Nearly £2K. Why?

I thought I might investigate getting a Roger table microphone - until I saw the price! I’m a retired electronic design engineer and I can’t imagine why a box containing an omnidirectional microphone, a small amplifier and a bluetooth chip should cost nearly two grand! I’m definitely considering brushing the cobwebs off my old skills and firing up my PCB circuit design software. I reckon the bits will cost me £50 and the PCB maybe £30. Might even sell a few!

They’re available on EBay used for much cheaper. There’s proprietary firmware that I think you’d have a hard time duplicating.

I don’t know either why it has to be so expensive. At the moment I am using a Roger ON3 so the TV can come through to my aids. But I was thinking about the Phonak Roger table mic for possible occasions when I might be in group setting. Great that you are an electronic design engineer and can do these things and hope that it works well

I see one on EBay for $150 (parts only) and another for about $450. The “parts only” Roger devices I have purchased on EBay have almost always worked fine. If you are willing to gamble $150 that is a possibility. Sorry, didn’t note that you were in the UK. Maybe you have a friend in the US who could get it for you.

I don’t think the bluetooth connection would be a problem and I’m not looking for the bells & whistles that the genuine article allegedly has. I already have a Phonak TV connector which has a standard 3.5mm jack input. I’ve used it to connect directly from my digital piano without any issues.

Thank you. I use a Phonak TV connector and it has been a life changer. I will probably look at getting a secondhand one first. The design process is cheap for me but very time costly.
