Costco (Kirkland) Size 10 Hearing Aid Batteries

I have been using Costco Kirkland brand batteries in my hearing aids for the past 4 years. I bought 3 packages 4 years ago and they were great and then I bought another 3 packages around 2 years ago and had no problem. However, I just bought 2 new packages in February and the batterries in them are awful.

First off, these new so called Child-Proof packages are awful but I can’t blame Costco for that - that is the fault of the governement when they passed this Reese’s Law (we call it the “We Hate The Elderly Law.”)

But my bigger isssue is instead of lasting a week, they now only last 2 to 3 days. At first, I thought something was wrong with my hearing aid. However, it has not been just one battery but multiple batteries - they just die in 2 -3 days. Has Costco changed battery suppliers, and has anyone else had this issue?

As a follow up, does anyone know of a place that sells # 10 batteries in the non-child resistant packaging. Basically, batteries coming from any other country will not be in this packagaing, as no other country in the world does this nonsense. I just wonder if anyone knows where to get it.

For those who think I am being dramatic about this, you really have to go out and get a package of this child - resistant packaging and see how awful it is. The law says the packaging can’t be opened with 1 hand and must take some kind of cutting instrument to open it.

These Kirkland batteries are made by Varta, which is a good manufacturer..
If your old ones were made in the USA then those are different (The US supplier for Costco batteries is usually Duracell)

As you said, it is a law now to use the child-proof packaging. You can find some old ones on eBay (like the ones below) or on AliExpress..

I use their 312 batteries and they re the same as always. Except the packaging, which I hate. I bought a battery case that holds 10 batteries on Etsy, so I only mess with the packaging once a month or so. Have you tried another brand to ensure it isn’t your aids?

Those new regulations make people with limited hand function dependent on others. Also people even with cutting instruments, scissors, they are difficult to open. And don’t get me started on those who have vision impairment.

This law is about as dumb as they come. I don’t believe zinc air batteries do not pose the immediate health hazard that button batteries containing toxic metals do. If ingested.

I suggest getting a refund and try buying some with a different manufacturer’s lot number. You might have to battle the customer service counter to actually get a refund. The hearing aid department might just swap them out for you.

I wonder if it is a bitter agent coating the batteries? We bought some lithium batteries and they just didn’t work in the apple AirTags. They were the brand with the bitter layer on them. Switching to another brand fixed it. Wouldn’t surprise me if the same company made them branded for Kirkland and they are broken the same way.

I think that is the issue. I purchased Rayovac batteries from China and they work just perfectly fine.
