Sound cutting in and out, seems related to jaw movement

It’s a recent and intermittent issue. Right ear only. First happened about a week ago. I changed the dome and filter and that seemed to fix it. Not so. Happened again yesterday and it’s been happening since I got up this morning.

Sound cuts in and out. ‘Out’ means signicantly reduced volume. I tested it with streaming and there’s still sound- just low volume. It’s a binary thing. It goes from one state to the other and back. No variability. This morning it’s obvious that my jaw movements can influence it. Move one way turns off sound. Move jaw the other way turns it on. This will last for a few reps and then stop for a while. Sometimes it happens by itself. I only notice it with my hearing aid in. My guess is that my hearing isn’t good enough to pick up the change unaided.

No other symptoms. No recent infections or colds. This is my better ear and I really need it to work! I’d appreciate any ideas.

The receiver connection at the aid might be loose or bad. Try switching receivers and see if the problem moves with the receiver.

Thanks Raudrive. I’ll take that as one possibility. I’m a bit doubtful for two reasons.

Movement at the join between aids and receiver caused by jaw movement would be almost nothing. Wouldn’t you expect the sound to cut out completely in that scenario?

Not necessarily. Connection making and breaking with ear/jaw movement.

Try disconnecting the receiver from the aid. Are the connections clean? Blow them out with clean dry air, reconnect. See if that helps.

You don’t have a hearing care professional to look into that? I do , but hardware maintenance I always go for my .

In any case, I wish I could help, I never had such issues.

I put some wax-softening stuff in last night, so maybe things have been a bit more motile. Anyway, whatever it is hasn’t happened for a few hours now. So wait and see I guess. Thanks.
