Is Roger On In programming required?

Hello All, I have a Roger On In V2 that I use for work conference calls and it works really well. However for table mode, presenter mode, etc, it’s not really worth using. It just seems to amplify everything, including background noise, etc.

For folks with Roger On devices, have you found custom programming of them worthwhile? Most of what I’ve read is that it should be plug and play, but it has to be better than the performance I’m currently getting. I’ve played with the Roger on and myPhonak apps and haven’t found the ‘aha’ setting.

What hearing aids do you use? I found it very helpful with my old L90s, but my new Spheres are so good in noise that the Roger is counterproductive most of the time. I’ve seen several people say the same thing on here, so I know it’s not just me.

Part of the problem is that the default settings for the Roger streaming program have either no or very low noise cancellation. That can be changed manually in Target, and it made a difference with the L90s. I haven’t done much experimenting with the Spheres yet, but I can already tell that the Roger On won’t be nearly as useful/helpful/necessary with these as with earlier generations of aids. At least, not unless Phonak releases an upgrade that allows Spheric processing of the Roger stream. That sounds like it ought to be possible, and the Roger On must be a huge revenue source for them, so maybe that will happen.

You may find your audi isn’t very knowledgeable about programming the Roger On, but that is a situation where the audi may call Phonak help line.

We’re in the minority but by no means outliers.

I find my Roger ON V2 a useful tool even though I have Phoank Infinio Sphere. E.G. I visit with a friend at her retail biz which has lots of hard surfaces, very high ceilings, and a good deal of echo. When she wears the Roger so is in presenter mode, this gives me far superior speech understanding than using Sphere mode (and the latter is a battery eater).

I just checked in Phonak app and my Roger Direct +Mic “adjust” is slightly greyed out (on iPhone) and tapping it does not open any adjustment options. Am I correct that when you tap “adjust” you get the typical set of options to modify the program including narrow-wide mic; amount of noise reduction, etc. Since you report withOUT specifying what adjustments you have been able to make but that noise is still objectionable, I am imagining that some of these adjustments are not available via the myPhonak app, but only via the Target programming software. Correct?

If “yes” will add to my motivation to get back into some . I look forward to reading other comments in this thread.

In myphonak you’ll only have volume and ambient adjust (volume of Roger vs volume of mics) available. The myrogermic app has things like width adjustment and mode changes, but doesn’t let you change things like frequencies etc. I have v3 and a v1 Roger’s, as well as audeo sphere ultras. Audeo p90s for backup. Sphere and Roger success really depend on occluding the noise to let just the processed sound through. If you have open domes etc, there is noise leaking in the undoes the work the technology is performing.

My audiologist will not recommend the Spheres for patients that just use domes. He says that the Spherical program is useless if you have domes

I have the spheres and use domes (fairly closed) and I’ve gotten a lot of benefit from them. I can see that perhaps for very open domes. It’s frustrating when audiologists or any other professionals get an idea in their head that is not definitive and acts like it is, thus prevents use of technology that would actually be helpful.

Apologies for being away from this topic for a while, busy at work and with the kids. Also been looking into the Roger On programming a little more and a summary below..

1, MyRogerMic: This allows some direction changes and changing of different modes. For example, turning off segments in the table mode or forcing it to be in presenter mode, etc.

2, myPhonak: this allows you to change the overall volume and the balance between the roger on and the hearing aids.

3, Some key combinations on the Roger on can dial in a permanent volume adjustment. Recollection is that it’s + or - 8dB in 2dB steps.

The unknown for me is what can be done in the target program? Has anyone had programming done here and was it worth it?

For me I am still on my Paradise P70 - 13T that work for me. I have a custom mold in my left ear and medium domes in my right. I just get the feeling that with some tuning the Roger on would work really well for me, but fear that it could get expensive trying to find out.

So if anyone has had a Roger On program added with the target app please let me know what your experiences were.
