Programs which can be set as part of Autosense (automatic), separately or both by the audiologist: Calm situation, speech in noise, spheric speech in loud noise, speech in car, comfort in noise, music. Other programs which can be set by the audiologist: Acoustic phone, speech in 360, Mask program and custom program. Make sure that the provider at least sets spheric speech as a selectable program in addition to being in Autosense.

Hi raylock1, I’m replying to a message that you sent a few months ago about Phonak Sphere audiologist set programs. You listed a number of programs all of interest to me because after a couple of months trialing, Phonak Sphere, Oticon Intent and Widex, I’ve decided that Phonak is superior to the other two and purchasing them. Can you please tell me a little about the programs you listed and which of the programs you listed are really good. For example, does speech in car really work, and what is speech in 360. I’ve been using ’s for many years and usually find that the set programs don’t improve thing very much but maybe it’s different with this new technology. Thanks, Joe

I believe the programs I listed are the ones shown in Target, the fitting software used by your audiologist or HAS when fitting your hearing aids. I only use two of them, Calm and Spheric in loud noise. I really have not found the other programs very useful in my case so I can’t intelligently discuss them. Hopefully some other members will chime in and provide some information or you could just try Googling “Programs included in Phonak’s Target Software”. Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

I have had my Spheres i90 since early December last year. Mt audiologist set up Acoustic phone, Spherical speech in noise. I never really used them do at my hearing exam this week I had my Spheres set with only Autosense. It has actually made using my aids so much simpler. I have been wearing aids 21 years. My first aids didn’t have any extra programs or even a way to adjust the volume. I got use to just putting my aids in my ears and forgetting about them. And I still feel that is the best way to deal with wearing aids.

I have used Autosense across several years of use on P90R, Sphere i90 (trials) and now Sennheiser Sonite Rise (essentially i90R) & have found it to be generally reliable at selecting the best program for the HAs in most hearing situations. It just works!
I usually have a small number of ‘customised’ manual programs e.g. ‘car’ and ‘speech in loud noise’ configured for particular locations, allowing for rapid optimisation if necessary. I try to keep it simple with a very small number of manual programs.
I also have ‘speech in 360’ as a manual program & find it particularly useful for speech in car situations as it applies a significat amount of noise reduction plus connects speech from one side to the other making it easier to hear speech from the other side of the car or from rear seat passengers.

If that is what works for you that is great. I adapted to putting my aids on and forgetting them. And I have a awesome audiologist that I have been partnering with for 8 years that has my aids fine tuned to my needs. I prefer spending my time doing what needs to be done without having to think about my hearing aids and what program I need them it. Modern aids are smart enough to take care of that. And the Spheres are the smallest I have had the pleasure to wear.
