I was very interested in this quote from another thread, mentioning electrode shifting.
@FredO said his electrode shifted and he had have a second surgery:
I’m hearing better since the 2nd surgery. Also, before this surgery, when I touched my ear, I heard a metallic hum or whine. Since the surgery, that symptom is completely gone.
I am very interested because I have noticed the same metallic whine. I had my surgery in July 2024 and the whole process and result has been amazing. But in the last few months I have noticed a metallic whine when I touch my ear, and I very occasionally hear the same whine very quietly at night when processor is off, so it is a form of tinnitus.
Were you told the metallic whine was related to the electrode shifting?
Did you have other symptoms of electrode shifting?
How long after initial surgery did shift occur?
Sorry for all the questions! I am noticing no change to the wonderful cochlear experience except for this new behaviour of a metallic whine if I touch my ear. It is not a problem as it is, but concerned it may get worse or indicate shifting.
Thanks
