My Oticon Custom hearing aids, had the waxtrap that I had to change every month or two. One time, it even came off into my ear and the Ear DR. had to get it out.
But my new Starkey Evolve 2400 IIC hearing aids do not have a changeable waxtrap, it has a dome filter at the top that doesn’t get changed and is so much better.
Not about to replace new . Maybe next time. Actually, changing wax traps once a month is what I was recommended, and was fine for me with domes. But every week or less with the custom molds is a bit of a pain, especially when one or both goes nearly silent suddenly when I’m out.
The best method to prevent or treat “Swim Ear” infections (ear mycosis) is to use boric alcohol. The first signs are slight itching inside the ear, which becomes bothersome with each passing day without treatment. The fastest way is to insert a drop or two into each ear, as close to the entrance to the ear canal as possible. It will sting a bit, but… that’s it… It is advisable to let the ear “breathe” for a few minutes. Preventive means at the end of the week, or every 2 weeks. In case of infection, 2-3 times a day. Guaranteed results from the first time! Don’t forget to clean the and dehumidify them!
Attention! I am not a doctor and do not take my presentation in a medical sense! However, for several years since I have been wearing hearing aids, I have learned that this is the most appropriate treatment. I had another treatment, much more complex, but after I understood what ear and HA hygiene means, I stuck to the solution presented above.
Which I apply a maximum of 2-3 times a year.
I had the problem of intermittant fonctionning. I was a loose contact between the receiver and the . I fixed it by removing the receiver connection and cleaning it. Lot of corrosion there. It was due to heavy sweating I believe. After reassembling it worked OK for some time. Then to prevent the problem I added a bit of synthetic grease (food grade) in the connection. It is working fine for few months now
This is the one process that would cause mine to block and drop volume, ashower. If I have time I let my ears cool down for about 20 mins before wearing ’s.
I have started to wipe the custom mold of wax with a tissue every single time I remove the HA’s to charge (twice a day), this has reduced the build up. I also give them a wipe every few days with isopropyl wipes, they are cheap as. But I only wipe the Molds, not the HA’s themselves. I also wipe my finger with the wipe and try and clean my ears. All this seems to have extended the life of the quite a lot.
