Widex Allure random static issues

Hello,

Recently tested a set of Widex Allures. The demo set had a random habit of emitting static in my right ear. This happened when i looked down. Completely randomly, off and on for 5 minutes then stops. I decided to try a new set (bought them). Same thing is happening but in the left ear. Completely random and loud enough for my wife to hear it 15 feet away. Again if I lower my head. Anyone had this issue? A secondary issue is the left side always has a low level hiss that stops when noise is present. Pure sound also has it but at lower volume and lower frequency. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sound like you are having feedback issues as @menglxs said .

When using Puresound, feedback can sometimes sound like “crackling” (I had this issue in the past).

The Widex feedback manager ( especially when using PureSound ) is “modest/ conservative” because Widex approach is to keep sound as natural as possible (the feedback manager can alter the sound ). This is why one reason why the Puresound program is only for mild to moderate hearing loss ( and it is only available with open or vented domes)

If you share your and the type of domes / sleeves , folks here may be able to help more .

The hissing sound can be fixed with programming/fitting changes. You can try changing the equalizer settings , that could help and it will give the fitter a good idea where the problem is .

The static is random and happens primarily in the universal program and in my left ear. The feedback sounds like a squeal when that happens like cupping my hands over the . This is like a squelch break on a radio. It happens when I lower my head ( randomly) goes off and on for 3-5 mins then stops. The hiss is primarily in the left ear and takes 3 volume clicks down in the app to reduce to almost inaudible. The right is 1 click down. In puresound the hiss is at a lower frequency and volume requiring 1-2 click down to remove it. I could work with this but the static is crazy. Also in teh music program I havent heard hiss nor static. My hearing loss is severe past 3k i drops off rapidly. Voice range i hear fine. I got these mostly for health purposes and to get the most out of my audiophile gear. I just wish they would work

People tend to blame the aids when they don’t work but it’s the programming and fitting that do the magic.

As I said before , you are experiencing feedback . This can be resolved with proper fitting (dome change) and /or programming adjustments .

If your hearing loss is severe >3K , you are not a candidate for Puresound . Below is the fitting range for PureSound .

Feedback occurs when sounds leak from the ear canal and reach the microphones . It’s physics . The only way to fix this is to fix the leak, which means change the type of domes you are using .

What has your fitter said about the issues you are having?

I disagree. While it might be programming I know what feedback and squelch sound like. I was an air traffic controller for 35 years. This is squelch/static. The programming part may be true in as much as the original file may be corrupted and affecting both sets of hearing aids. I may need a new hearing test to make a new file to then be set up. My fitter is at a loss atm. I even tried some Oticons and have none of the static so far but the hiss is the opposite. Quiet when no noise and hiss when there is noise. Something as small as a mouse click causes and answering hiss of equal length. Drives me nuts. I was unofficially recommended by a tech to redo the test and make a new file. The only thing the 2 aids have in common is the programming. I use open domes. I only used pure sound because the hiss was more manageable.

Could you post your audogram, this would help with advice, as mentioned it does sound like feedback especially with since your using open domes, but another possibility is “floor noise” as in the circuit.

I could agree with you if it were constant. But it is completely random and the duration is too. The constant hiss may be what you describe though. I appreciate your thinking about this. It’s almost like im not going to be able to have at all. Both Widex and Oticon have had issues with hiss. and the Widex additionally has the random loud static

No im taking what you are saying and adding it to what I have experienced. Ill try to get the audiiogram to post tomorrow. So to ask another question. Isnt feedback like a squeal/whistle. Im new im asking. Another question would be why is the static only in my left ear and on my demo set it was in my right ear? anyway im a newb and trying to sort this all out. Im not diisregarding im trying to understand so I can express your suggestions to my Audiologist..Thanks

Well if it is indeed feedback then your left was leaking and on your demo it was the right side, hard to say without knowing the exact acoustics and programming at the time to compare, I wouldn’t read too much into this, just concentrate on what your are giving/doing now.

Thanks this info is really helping because I was close to just bagging the whole thing. Now im armed with more possibilities and information
