Is it possible to read and use my Phonak Lumity Naida L90 UP programing info as a guide for Costco to better and more quickly program Jabra EP 20 hearing aids??
I could ask my Phonak audiologist for a printout of the programing info?
They could take a real-ear or testbox measure of your phonak L90 UPs and then match the new ones to that. Testbox would be fine if your earmolds are very, very similar (or the same earmold), real-ear preferred if not.
But otherwise, not really other than looking at program line-up. There are also some features in the L90s that might be benefiting you that you would lose going to the Jabras. Primarily the phonak algorithm, and possible the digital contrast fitting rationale IF you are using that.
So, assuming Costco HAS a test box, they would plug in your hearing aids, measure the gain output, than plug in the Jabras and adjust the gain to match. If the clinician isn’t an idiot they should understand, although if they’ve never done it it might take them a minute to think about it. But they may actually only have real-ear, in which case they do the same but you sit there while they do it with a probe microphone in your ear. On the verifit you can save comparison curves, but I don’t think Costco uses the verifit. They have the auricle maybe? So they can measure and mid level gain on two of the four curves with your phonaks, and then swap to the Jabra and measure MPO and mid level gain again on the last two curves and match them to the first two, you see what I mean? Then they can measure soft and loud gain on the phonaks and do the same process. If may seem like a slightly slower process than just straight fitting the hearing aids, but if you are very happy with your phonak settings it will ultimately cut down on follow-ups, especially for a UP user.
Thanks for the excellent answers.
The way my Phonak sound seem to be the best for me.
I also like to see what Costco Jabra/Resound have to offer?
I am on a six month trial with rechargeable Jabra EP 20 old school earmolds with tubes.
On my next Costco visit I’ll ask them about your suggestions.
Unfortunately you won’t find them sounding the same, maybe possibly similar, Costco tech will/should know this so they’ll probably want to start you off on a new fitting, it’d be a miracle if they have a test box laying around to play around with.
The chip inside needs to be programmed to its own specifications to work. You can’t simply transfer programming from a Windows machine to a mac and expect it to work.
What are your thoughts on my Jabra streaming issue?
The Jabra and I-Phone 16 streaming is fine half the time, other times there are short annoying soft distortion interruptions within my Apple music, podcast, and BARD audiobooks.
Kind of like a muffled skip on a CD.
On my Phonak p90 this happens very briefly, sometimes just before starting the first song on Apple music.
I give Phonak 95 and Jabra/Resound a 75 grade on streaming.
I’m not sure. Bluetooth is twitchy. Do the distortions happen when something happens on the phone, like a notification? Does it happen streaming from a different device? How regularly do you reboot your phone?
Overall I have found the Sonova bluetooth to be more generally reliable, but it seems a bit phone specific.
What is meant by rebooting the phone?
I always turn off the phone at night and also make sure it is always up to date.
The Jabra issue can happen sometimes throughout an Apple song or sports podcast whereas with the Phonak the problem only happens sometimes at the start, but the rest of streaming is fine and enjoyable.
