Vivia 9 DYI programming help

Hi, I am seeking help on Smart Fit programing. I have upgraded from Resound Ones to Vivia 9. While I hear more sound with the Vivias Icannot understand conversations. My audiologist has tried to program them 3 times now but the sound remains brazzy, gravely, almost like reverberation which is making it hard to understand any conversation . Everyone’s voices sound like deep male voices including female and my voice.

I have a complex hearing loss with steep slope and high frequency loss but left has retained some low frequency. I use custom molds with a 1 mm vent.

I have tried unlinking and decreasing lower frequencies on the left between -2 and -6 reducing between 250 and 700. Changing gain from 100 % to 90. No change so far has helped eliminate gravely raspy ringing voices to I can hear people talking more clearly. Any and all programing suggestions are welcome!

Curious: Why did you choose an like the Vivía instead of the Renzo IA or an Xceeed?

your seems to be out of the fitting range of the Vivia UP. Maybe some large frequency shifting is being used. That could explain why all voices sound the same .

Can you share the type of receiver you are using? And , if you are doing DYI, the gain vs frequency chart ?

I’m far from being an expert when it comes to profound losses — my comments/ questions are based on the audiogram <=> UP fitting range chart

Thank you for your post and sensible questions. I previously used Resound Ones. I trialed Phonak Spheres and my audiologist could not get them programed so I could understand conversations. The Vivia 9 trial was better but still I issues as I outlined. Due to insurance changing, I had to rush to make a purchase and was not able to trial Exceeds etc. The audi is the one that selected the HP receivers.
For the DYI I am in the Gain Adjustment menu with the view of Gain. See below

But why Vivia instead of Enzo IA? If you are in rush, I would take Enzo IA blindly instead of Vivia.

What your score? What acoustic coupling do you have? Domes or earmold? If earmold, what diameter of vent do you have?

Because I had resound before and found the mini mic and 2 TV streams to be extremely helpful for one on one conversations, TV, and music . I also think she was aligning with implants although I am not excited to try that path yet

My Right WR at 95 intensity is 0 The left at 90 intensity is 8 zero

Enzo IA is also a Resound product. So I still don’t understand why suggested Vivia looking at your .

So, if I understand correctly:

Right : 0 %
Left WRS: 8%?

That is deafness basically untreatable by hearing aids. I am not sure if getting new is cost-effective, because the only option to improve you speech recognition is . If you like Resound accesories, Cochlear products is compatible and are up to date.

I have Cochlear CI in my left ear and no regrets. With high probability you would get even higher relative benefit from CI than me.

Well first off you deserve Enzo for your left side for sure, your completely maximizing the receiver which is most likely giving the distortion and horrible experience, as your you have a chance of trying to find a solution, one way is Start a new client in SmartFit to explore and experiment with, by this I mean with formula and acoustics (different vent size,lower some low end on left side only), program one side at a time, this is important for you because of quite a difference between left and right side,let the software do the settings/first fit etc, how is feedback? feedback test would probably lower some frequencies as well, still you should ask your Audiologist to upgrade to Enzo BTE with evaluation.

Thank you for your suggestions regarding hearing aids and cochlear implants. A cochlear implant feels like a very significant step, and I have a lot of concerns about possible regret, balance issues, taste changes, and overall hearing outcomes.

I do have a cochlear implant evaluation scheduled for June, but I’ve been feeling somewhat pressured by the process. The clinic was very aggressive about getting me to schedule the appointment, and that has made me uneasy.

What also worries me is that the experts have not been able to program my current “better” hearing aids to work as well as my older ReSound Ones. That makes it difficult for me to fully trust that a cochlear implant could be programmed and optimized correctly for me. I want to feel confident that the technology and the people managing it, can truly provide the best possible outcome before making such a major decision.

, You are correct the left is only 8% I appreciate hearing the positive feedback on your implant. I have a CI eval next month but truly afraid of taking this step for many reasons. Especially since I work full time and need to hear plus, I understand the process involves intensive training after

You put it perfectly. There is many situations where overthinking can be really harmful and I think, @CCE, that this is your case.

I understand that The unknown often arouses fear and resistance, but with that percentages you have practically nothing to lose regarding speech comprehension.

Rehabilitation is not only doing some listening, but first and foremost just participating in daily activity, jobs, etc.

This is definitely too large for your loss. Even pressure vents (0.5-0.8mm) may be too large.
I have 1mm and just ordered titanium cShells with no vent.

Why titanium? It can have a thinner shell wall than acrylic, so the earmold can be smaller and fit deeper into the ear canal. This results in better sound quality and additional “free gain” due to Boyle’s law, as well as reduced occlusion effect.

I wanted no vent for maximising isolation from external unprocessed noise, and maximising feedback threshold, which isn’t mine problem so much, but it’s really problem for you.

Request for a deep silicone impression, which reaches at least 5mm past 2nd bend of ear canal.

Thank you for the valuable feedback on my level of hearing loss and suggestions on aids. I have recently been fitted with Phonak Naida L90 -UP, full silicone ear molds. I am hearing conversation and others noises far better than using top of the line aids. I considered Enzo IA but the are not supported yet for use with .

Yes they are on trial still. I have heard rumblings that Phonak might release an update Up later this year .

Yes, this is why I asked. Naida Link may be released soon (probably not this month). Your earmolds have no vents?
