Debugging Oticon Connect Clip Bluetooth

My Connect Clip (CC) used to work. When my left hearing aid failed, CC stopped working. I got my left aid replaced. I completely reset the CC (hold down all buttons) and paired it successfully with the aids. It works fine as a remote mic, but when I try to use my Windows 11 computer bluetooth to send audio to CC, it connects for 1/2 second then drops connection.

I’ve removed the device and refound the device with the Windows computer. It’s there, but always shows not connected.

It COULD be that the computer bluetooth failed.
It COULD be that the CC bluetooth failed.
It COULD be that something is installed wrong or corrupt.

I went to a second computer and had the same problem. It finds CC but doesn’t connect. That suggests that the problem is in CC.

I tried to pair my computer with my phone and it also failed, suggesting that the problem is in computer bluetooth.

I fully charged CC. No better.

Any suggestions on how to definitively debug and fix this?

How to pair aids to connect clip

Oticon suggested pressing all three buttons and holding them…the light will turn white, then red. Then place the aids in the charger and turn the connect clip on and take the aids out of the charger. The connect clip will pulse yellow looking for the aids and then green when it finds them. Then they suggested to forget the pairing on the phone and re pair it through bluetooth. Once repaired they suggested to turn on the (hold large button till the light turns pink). If the remote mic works with no problem and keeps the connection it rules out the connect clip being the problems and then we could assume its an aid problem. If the aids are connected to the phone and the connect clip is the two will fight and usually the aids will win so there is a known struggle but we can start by seeing if the connect clip is working

I gave the ConnectClip to my audiologist. She tested it and said it pairs with aids and with computers for her. I then redid all of my debugging: reinstall the windows driver, clear the connectclip and re-pair it. I tested it as a remote mic and it works well with my aids. But it won’t connect to my computer.

It sure seems like my computer bluetooth died. I’m going to order an external bluetooth dongle and see if that fixes it. They’re really cheap, so it’s worth the gamble, especially compared to the cost of computer repair.

I confirmed that the problem was with my computer’s bluetooth after all.

I bought a TP-Link UB600 USB-Bluetooth adapter (<$15). I reset the Connect Clip (all three buttons down for 6 seconds), paired it with my aids (put aids into and out of charger), uninstalled the computer’s built-in bluetooth adapter driver (windows Device Manager), downloaded the TP-Link driver, installed it, and am now able to use the Connect Clip again.
